Outperforming all of our expectations - Sitting in Zhour's pottery place on top of the village Aïn Bouchrik, surrounded by the sound of donkeys, roosters and the muezzin calling to prayer was the perfect setting to indulge into the ancient handcraft of pottery making: collecting the clay, bringing it to the village on a donkey, sculpting, polishing, painting and finally openair firing. When working the clay, no Arabic words are needed to communicate with Zhour, the sublime, peaceful atmosphere is only interrupted by the delicious lunch at her family's table. When going home bags are packed not only with beautiful pieces but also with memorable encounters.

A priceless opportunity. - I am grateful for the unique opportunity to be in the Rif mountains to learn an ancient way of working with clay. From the beauty of the land and Hicham’s homestay, to the warmth and mastery of Zhour’s teachings and family, it was an unforgettable experience.

Loved our experience - It was a unique experience that my friend and I enjoyed. We had a good feeling about it from the beginning as communication with Hicham was excellent. He helped organise everything which included a return trip from Fez and accommodation at his home stay (additional cost but very reasonably priced and all meals included) As for the ceramic course itself, Zhour was a great teacher. It was interesting to experience the whole process from collecting the raw materials to the end products. We especially loved how sustainable everything was. In addition, the walk from Hicham’s home stay to Zhour’s place was incredibly scenic and full of animals and stunning nature, we thought that was a beautiful addition to our ceramic experience.

Don't hesitate to book this tour! - This was a very memorable experience. We feel so fortunate to have been able to visit this beautiful village. Our tour guide Hicham was very knowledgeable and kind. The Zhour family were so hospitable and sweet. We loved learning about the beautiful art of traditional pottery and also to be able to enjoy a lovely home cooked meal. This was absolutely a highlight of our three weeks of extensive travel in Morocco. We would highly recommend this experience!

Wonderful stay in Taouante - A wonderful experience in Taouante! I stayed at the homestay, and it was perfect. Hicham and his family took great care of me and made me feel at home. The food was delicious and plentiful. The scenery around the village I stayed in was beautiful and there were pleasant hikes in the region. The region has a lot to offer, and I am eager to go back and explore more. If you want to have a peaceful local experience it is recommended to stay here.

Come for the activities, stay for everything else - Hicham of Taounate Ecotourism Discoveries arranged an unforgettable week for me in off-the-beaten-path Taounate. I hardly even know where to start this review. Do I first mention the activities, which is what brought me here? The wonderful pottery workshop and cooking class, where I learned things I have since used in my every day life. Or do I begin with the food? Everything was so fresh and flavourful; the best I've tasted in Morocco. Maybe I should commence with the landscapes, even though I selfishly don't want everyone to know how drop-dead gorgeous this special place is. Actually, I think this review should start and end with the people. Everyone I met, from the beautiful family I stayed with to all the others I interacted with during my time there - shepherds who wove me palm bracelets just because; locals who offered me fruit from their tree; villagers who greeted me warmly; and of course Hicham, who was a helpful contact and excellent ambassador for this region - were simply wonderful. Like another reviewer said, you have to live it at least once in your life. I'm glad I have and I certainly hope to return!
