Morning Marvels: The Ancient Ruins of Paestum
As the sun rises over the horizon, casting a golden hue over the ancient city of Paestum, the nearly full moon still lingers in the sky, offering a magical start to your weekend exploration. Begin your journey at the Greek Temples and Museum where the morning light illuminates the majestic Doric temples, each a testament to the architectural prowess of ancient Greece. Available from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, this guided tour provides a comprehensive overview of the site’s rich history, from the grandeur of the Temples of Neptune to the bustling marketplace that once thrived here.
The Archaeological Park of Paestum is a treasure trove of history, where every stone tells a story of a bygone era. As you wander through the ruins, imagine the lives of those who walked these paths centuries ago. The National Archaeological Museum, included in your tour, houses exquisite art pieces from Magna Graecia, offering a deeper understanding of the cultural and historical significance of this ancient city. A recent review from October 2024 highlights the enriching experience:
An enriching tour. Our guide Mario gave us an excellent tour. He explained multiple layers of the archaeological finds at the park. We learned about the different ages of the temples, the differences among them, and to whom they were dedicated as well as other aspects of the site such as the marketplace, prison, forum, roads, and other buildings. Mario brought aspects of the Greek, Lucanian, & Roman cultures and building techniques into the tour as well. The Museum tour was an extension of the archaeological findings at the park. I highly recommend taking this tour with Mario as the knowledge of an archaeologist & information he provided enriched our experience greatly. (Reviewed at: 2024-10-02)
