Koh Tao, meaning ‘Turtle Island,’ has become Thailand’s premier scuba diving destination. Located in the Chumphon Archipelago on the western shore of the Gulf of Thailand, it is administratively part of Surat Thani Province. This small island, covering approximately 21 km², attracts over 100,000 visitors annually, making it one of Thailand’s most popular tourist spots and a top global diving destination. The island is renowned for scuba diving and snorkeling, as well as hiking, rock climbing, and bouldering.
Traveling to Koh Tao is convenient by bus and ferry. The buses are comfortable and air-conditioned, with hotel pickup services available from various locations. The journey from Krabi to Koh Tao takes 7-8 hours, with stopovers at Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. Koh Tao does not have an airport and relies on ferries from the mainland, Koh Samui, and Koh Phangan.
