Embrace the Wild: A New Year’s Eve Safari Adventure
As the year draws to a close, there’s no better way to welcome 2025 than by immersing yourself in the untamed beauty of Palatupana, Southern Province, Sri Lanka. This New Year’s Eve, embark on a thrilling wildlife safari in Yala National Park, where the wonders of nature await. With the weather offering a mix of rain and partial cloudiness, the lush landscapes of Yala come alive, providing a perfect backdrop for an unforgettable adventure.
Start your day early on December 28th with a Morning Safari in Yala National Park. The early hours, known as the “Golden Hours,” offer the best chance to spot the elusive Sri Lankan leopard, along with elephants, sloth bears, and a myriad of other wildlife. As you traverse the park in a 4x4 safari jeep, guided by experienced driver-guides, you’ll witness the raw beauty of nature. The rain-soaked earth and overcast skies add a mystical touch to the experience, making every sighting feel like a rare and precious gift.
“Exciting safari under heavy rain! - We went for an afternoon safari with Kasun. He was just fantastic! Even though we encountered heavy rain during the safari, which usually makes animal sightings more difficult, Kasun tried his best to find any possible wildlife movements. In the end, we saw leopard, bear, elephants playing in the water and walking on the path, baby crocodile, buffalo, peacocks …. Which is very impressive given the rainy weather and that leopards are already difficult to see under sunny weather. I think Kasun contributed a lot to this as he kept going to places, checking binoculars and messaging his friends for news, and of course rushing to the sighting places! Thank you for making safari under heavy rain a fun and exciting trip!! Actually safari under heavy rain is kinda like a theme park ride which adds to the fun of it. We thoroughly enjoyed it!!” - Reviewed on 2024-11-25
Afternoon Delights: A Private Safari Experience
As the afternoon unfolds, consider a Private Safari for a more intimate encounter with Yala’s wildlife. Available from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM on December 29th, this private tour offers a personalized journey through the park’s diverse habitats. With a knowledgeable guide at your side, you’ll explore the park’s hidden corners, where elephants, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species thrive.
The moderate winds and high humidity create a unique atmosphere, enhancing the sense of adventure as you navigate the park’s rugged terrain. The chance of rain adds an element of unpredictability, making each moment feel like a new discovery. As you return to Hambantota Port, you’ll carry with you memories of a day spent in harmony with nature, a fitting way to bid farewell to the old year.
“Great day out. - We picked our tour with Travceylon based on excellent reviews and were very happy with our choice. Our guide/driver Lakshan was waiting at the entrance to the port. He was a lovely guy, spoke good English and was a very careful driver. We managed to see elephants, crocodiles, and many birds. Lakshan managed to point out things that we didn’t see for ourselves. I was expecting an uncomfortable journey (jeep all the way) but was pleasantly surprised at just how comfortable the journey was. Overall it was an excellent experience and all 6 of us enjoyed ourselves. I would recommend this trip to anyone.” - Reviewed on 2024-12-24
A Sustainable Celebration: Ringing in the New Year with Nature

Both the Morning Safari and Private Safari emphasize eco-friendly practices, ensuring that your experience is not only thrilling but also sustainable.
