• Palatupana - Yala National Park (යාල) is the second-largest and most popular national park in Sri Lanka, situated along the Indian Ocean coastline. The park is home to 44 mammal species, including the Sri Lankan Elephant, and is renowned for having one of the highest leopard densities globally. Block I of Yala is especially noted for its leopards, with numerous individuals inhabiting the area.

The park’s elephant herd numbers around 100–150, and other notable mammals include the Sri Lankan sloth bear, wild water buffalo, and leopard, all of which are classified as threatened species. Although water buffaloes are indigenous to Sri Lanka, many populations have genes from domestic or feral origins. Furthermore, the elephant population in Yala varies.
