Additional Information

Explore the rebirth of the city of Palermo as it refuses to forget its dark past by embarking on a 12kilometer bike journey that runs between the city center and its outskirts. This features prominent landmarks including the old town, the waterfront, Via Libertà, and the ‘Falcone Tree’ Memorial.

As you traverse the pedestrianised sections of the old city and the bike lanes linking it to the suburbs, witness the emerging transformation of Palermo - ‘inside and out’. The city is recuperating from the afflictions caused by ruthless Mafia violence that culminated in the 1992 bloodshed.

This expedition is in honour of the legendary Falcone and Borsellino, prosecutors gunned down by the Mafia, their deaths sparking outrage and defiance against the Mafia among the inhabitants of Sicily. This legacy resulted in a wave of action by a new generation of anti-Mafia campaigners. Present day youth remain dedicated to enhancing society and driving change, actively volunteering in grassroots initiatives like Addiopizzo.

Informative tour - Really interesting tour. Our guide Stefano was very articulate and passionate about his movement, and spoke in great detail about the events that shaped the mafia and the growing resistance to them.

Stefano’s passion for his organisation’s work and the vision for an extortion free Sicily is inspiring. We all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learned a great deal In the process.

Great start of Sicily holiday - The bike tour was a great experience with passionate tour guide, Stefano (if I remember his name correctly, he was an English teacher and played the drums). He told stories about the history and the present situation of the Mafia, which is relevant if you visit Sicily. It is not a tour through the historic center. Thanks for your passion, Stefano!

The most interesting tour in Palermo - It was a very interesting tour by bicycle around Palermo. During 3-hours we saw memoryplaces of murded people, murals, prison and the work the organisation make today. We think this is the most interesting tour to make in the city and on second place (street foof tour). We also recommend a trip to the antimaffiamuseum in Corleone.
