PANILURO
“The place which enchanted also the ancient Greeks”
Palinuro is very famous for its nature and beautiful beaches, where the caretta caretta turtle chose to lay its eggs. Among the many sea caves the Blue Grotto is probably the most famous and beautiful. It takes its name from the blue color given by the effect of light from a hole in the rock.
Silver cave
with the fascinating walls washed by the sea. This effect creates silver-colored reflections defined by the sun, which makes space through some cracks.
Blood cave
whose name is due to the red color of its walls which makes the marine waters reddish inside. Among the various limestone formations, two are noteworthy and reminiscent of a shell and the head of a crocodile.
Sulphurous cave
where there is a source of sulphurous water. The entrance to the cave where the column of sulphurous water joins that of the sea is great.
Cave of Bones or Prehistoric
characterized by the presence of bones of prehistoric animals inside.
Cave of the Monks
It is so called by the presence of dark brown stalagmites, in the forms recalling monks in prayer.
In addition to the caves there is La Finestrella from which you can see the weather station, the rock of the Rabbit, the Natural arch an arch in the rock that allows access from one beach to another.
Bay of “good sleep” reachable only by sea elected most beautiful beach by Legambiente in 2014. In this wonderful town there is a variety of sandy only beaches, others with mixed rocks with beautiful pine forests ideal for taking refuge during the hottest hours of summer.
