Highlights
  • Palma de Mallorca - Our tour kicks off at Camí de la Escollera, right in front of the Cathedral of Palma, around 09:15 hrs. Palma originated as a Roman camp built on the remnants of a Talaiotic settlement. The city endured several Vandal invasions during the decline of the Western Roman Empire, was later reclaimed by the Byzantine Empire, then colonized by the Moors (who named it Medina Mayurqa), and finally, in the 13th century, by James I of Aragon.

  • Soller - Soller is a charming village situated three kilometers from the Port on Mallorca’s northeast coast, recognized as the commercial and cultural hub of the Serra de Tramontana. It lies in a valley encircled by mountains known as ‘el valle de Los Naranjos’ (the valley of orange trees). The picturesque central square, the village’s main gathering spot, is surrounded by numerous small, cobbled streets. Upon arriving in Sóller, the commercial and cultural heart of the Sierra, we are welcomed by the main square of Sóller, ideal for sitting on a terrace and admiring the church of San Bartolomé and the Banco de Sóller building.

  • Port de Soller - The Port of Sóller is a stunning natural harbor located in the island’s northwest and a significant tourist attraction. This small gem, once coveted by privateers, offers a unique landscape where the scent of orange blossom blends with the sea breeze. The port and the town of Sóller are linked by an old wooden tram that retains its original aesthetics and decoration, which we can appreciate while strolling along the bustling promenade of the port.

  • El Tren de Soller - On October 4, 1913, Mallorca’s first electric tram line was inaugurated, running between Sóller and Puerto de Sóller. The construction of the Sóller tram began after the Palma-Sóller railway line was completed. The project for this line was designed and overseen by Pedro Garau, with 4,868 meters of track laid. The iron bridge over the Torrent Major is a notable feature. Initially, the tram had a power plant at the Sóller station, powered by a 65-horsepower explosion engine that operated with a Siemens-Schuckert dynamo, providing 600 volts of direct current. Although the Sóller tram was intended for passenger transport, it was also used to carry goods to the port.

Well worth it - This is an excellent trip . Coach picks you up from hotel .there is a guide on board .we had Vivi who was excellent throughout. You go through the countryside to a beautiful monastery well worth a look . Then from there down some challenging roads to a beautiful cove for a lunch break & walk about ,stunning. From there on a boat to port de Soller . Nice place but no real stop there . On the tram from there up through the village to an old railway . A fabulous train ride through 13 tunnels and lovely villages & towns to see on the way . The train is old & a real treat . You come into the outskirts of Palma where your coach awaits you. Then back through the countryside to your hotel . It’s a long day but I would highly recommend it .

Our First Time To Soller - Trip was great, organised and felt like we got the vip experience! Only downside was the limited time at each location but it’s understandable considering how busy the train/trams were. You’ll have enough time for an ice cream In Soller town and a pizza in port.

Train was a cool experience - This trip was fantastic! We enjoyed riding the train. It was a wonderful way to experience and see the breathtaking views! I wish that I had known about the "long" tunnel beforehand, just to know it was coming, but I did ok and it was such a cool experience! I would recommend this trip to anyone and I'd definitely go again!

Bit rushed but we were... - Bit rushed but we were prepared for that so softened the disappointment of not having much time in Port of Soller and Soller which were both wonderful to see.

Good tour, but poor communication about hotel pick up - The tour was well worth it. Great train ride and guide was very knowledgeable. The problem was communication about pick up. The tour offered pick up at my hotel in Palma so thats what we said we would do. I received an email confirming the time and hotel location. On the day of the tour, they did not show up at our hotel. I had our hotel call the local tour operator and they said they had been trying to reach me to say they would not do hotel pick up. I did not get any messages from them about this. Luckily I was able to reschedule the tour in two days, or I would have lost my money. Viatour should not make promises that the local operator can’t deliver on.

Good train experience/ Not so good pickup experience - The train and tram rides were great. There was a communication issue with the tour company. I picked my pickup hotel from their list, and they never came. When I called I was told my pickup wasn’t on the list but that we could still make the tour if we hurried to the train station. Once at the train station, the tour guide scolded us and insisted that the bus had come for us but that we weren’t there. She was pretty brusque. To their credit, the tour company did problem solve quickly. The other issue was time. We had about 40 minutes in Soller and about 30 minutes in the Soller Bay area. Better to just book the train and tram from their website. It’s cheaper and you’ll get a lot more time to explore.

Tour guide was disappointing - The train experience was nice. Unfortunately the tour guide was not good. The timing of the tour was too rushed. If you want too experience and enjoy Port de Soller I would advise you to have your own transportation. I would not recommend this tour or the female guide for future booking. .

Expensive and does not keep to schedule time - Avoid the tram if you want stress free trip. We bad experience on a Saturday. Important - It gives priority to group excursions and organised tours over other paying customers. We had to leave Two to Three trams go past full with groups before we were allowed on one overcrowded. NB. The schedule is not adhered too! Problem if you have a set time to catch train back to Palma
