• Plaza Tomas Herrera - The tour will commence with a walk to the main squares and town center of the San Felipe area. If both sites are included in the tour, the highlights of San Felipe will be covered in about an hour before proceeding to the Panama Viejo archaeological site.
• Plaza de Francia - As the group walks down Avenida “A” (Ave.), there will be a stop at St. Joseph’s Church to view the Gold Altar and a Nativity Scene inside the Spanish Colonial Church, established in 1675. The tour will also include a visit to the Society of Jesus Ruins (Jesuit monks) and the flat arch ruins, which the French used as evidence that Panama was suitable for the waterway they intended to build.
• Iglesia de San Francisco de Asis - On B Ave, the tour will visit the church and the San Felipe Neri Oratory (“cloister”) for the Sisters of Charity located around the Plaza Bolivar area.
• Plaza Mayor - After walking up Avenida B (Ave.), the tour will proceed to the main square in the historic World Heritage Site city of San Felipe, Casco Antiguo, Republic of Panama. This square is situated in front of the Basílica Metropolitana Santa María La Antigua (construction began in 1688 and was consecrated 108 years later in 1796). Here, visitors will see some relics and traditions, and then walk up Central Ave to observe the tracks of the old Trolley as the tour heads towards the Church of Our Lady of Mercy at the city’s entrance.
• Iglesia Santa Ana Panama - The tour will conclude with a walk by the area where city gates once separated citizens by hierarchy. European settlers and Spanish born in the New World had the right to live within these limits, while natives, indigenous people, and blacks lived outside in the suburbs (“los arrabales”). The tour will then return to Plaza Herrera, where it began, to bid farewell to guests who booked the * “Ruined City tour” optional variation.
• Museo de la Mola - It is highly recommended to visit this museum independently. Ask the guide for its location to explore the pre-Columbian heritage of the inhabitants of San Blas.

Casco Antiguo de San Felipe marks the location where the new City of Panama was established in 1673, celebrating its 350th anniversary in 2023. It was constructed just 5 miles southwest of the original city, now the Panama Viejo archaeological site, which was left in ruins after fires set by the Spanish colonials. This was done to preserve the strategic position vital for global trade since the Pacific Ocean’s discovery in 1513 and to prevent the collapse of the Spanish Empire at the hands of their most notorious adversary, Captain Henry Morgan, who led the infamous “Rogue” attack in 1671. Both sites are recognized as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
