Canal de Panama - The Panama Canal (Spanish: Canal de Panamá) is a man-made 82 km (51 mi) waterway in Panama that links the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean. The canal traverses the Isthmus of Panama and serves as a passageway for sea trade. Equipped with canal locks at both ends, it raises vessels to the height of Gatun Lake, a man-made reservoir designed to minimize excavation for the canal, situated 26 m (85 ft) above sea level, before lowering them on the opposite side. Our tour includes a stop at the Miraflores Locks, where you’ll witness the canal’s operation using fresh water as a means to lift the ships.
Amador Causeway (Calzada de Amador) - Constructed in 1913 using rock from the Culebra Cut’s excavation during the Panama Canal’s creation, the Causeway connects Panama City to four islands: Naos, Perico, Culebra, and Flamenco. This area was once part of the American military base known as Fort Amador, which was set up to guard the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal. Today, remnants of the military presence are visible on the islands, alongside stunning views of Panama City’s skyline and the Pacific side’s breakwater of the Panama Canal.
Casco Viejo - Casco Viejo stands as the historic heart and cultural jewel of Panama City. In 1997, UNESCO designated it a World Heritage Site. Founded in 1673 by Spanish colonizers, the Catholic Church, and other settlers, Casco Viejo was once among the wealthiest and most populated districts in the Americas. By the 1950s, it had fallen into a period of decline. Its streets are lined with edifices that have served as residences, cathedrals, churches, and government buildings through various architectural periods. Some of these edifices have been meticulously restored and are now home to museums, fine dining establishments, boutique shops, and luxury living spaces. Meanwhile, other structures remain dilapidated or in ruins, with impoverished families living next to renovated, high-end properties, providing a glimpse into the district’s diverse historical narrative.
