Diving into Serenity: My Freediving Adventure in Panglao
Drawn by the allure of Panglao’s pristine waters, I embarked on a beginner freediving course that promised both adventure and tranquility. Join me as I dive into the depths and discover a world of wonder beneath the waves.
Arrival in Panglao: A Warm Welcome
As I stepped off the plane and into the warm embrace of Panglao’s tropical air, I felt a familiar thrill. The ocean was calling, and I was here to answer. My fiancé and I had decided to embark on a new adventure: a beginner freediving course at the renowned Freedive Academy Panglao. Known for its pristine waters and vibrant marine life, Panglao was the perfect setting for this underwater exploration.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with the warm hospitality that the Philippines is famous for. We had opted to stay in one of the academy’s charming bahay kubo, traditional bamboo huts that offered a rustic yet comfortable experience. Equipped with a fan, electricity, and Wi-Fi, it was the perfect blend of simplicity and modern convenience. Renting a scooter from the academy allowed us to explore the island at our own pace, adding an extra layer of freedom to our stay.
Diving into the Deep: The Course Begins
The course itself was a blend of excitement and serenity. Our instructor, Ramar, was a seasoned freediver with a calm demeanor that immediately put us at ease. His expertise was evident as he guided us through the fundamentals of freediving, from breath-hold techniques to safety procedures. Each session was a mix of classroom learning, pool practice, and open water dives, allowing us to gradually build our confidence and skills.
Ramar’s personalized approach was a highlight of the course. With only three students in our group, he was able to provide individual feedback and encouragement, helping us to refine our techniques and overcome any challenges. His passion for freediving was infectious, and it wasn’t long before we were all captivated by the allure of the deep blue.
A New World Unveiled: The Fun Dive
The culmination of our course was a fun dive, an opportunity to put our newfound skills to the test and explore the underwater world in all its glory. Accompanied by Wen, another skilled instructor, and Dio, who captured the experience on camera, we descended into the depths, surrounded by the vibrant colors and diverse marine life that Panglao is known for.
The experience was nothing short of magical. As a marine biologist, I have spent countless hours studying coral reefs and marine ecosystems, but freediving offered a new perspective. The silence of the underwater world, the feeling of weightlessness, and the connection with the ocean were exhilarating and calming all at once. It was a reminder of why I fell in love with the ocean in the first place.
Our time at Freedive Academy Panglao was more than just a course; it was an unforgettable journey into the heart of the ocean. The friendships we formed, the skills we acquired, and the memories we made will stay with us long after we’ve left the island. As we prepare to return in a few months to continue our freediving journey, I am filled with anticipation for the adventures that await beneath the waves. If you’re looking to explore the ocean in its purest form, I highly recommend the Beginner Freediving Course at Freedive Academy Panglao. It’s an experience that will leave you breathless in the best possible way.
