- Arahurahu Marae - Our tour begins at 9:00 AM from your hotel, with the first stop at an archaeological site. Some of Tahiti’s most mystical places are on land, including the stone marae (temples) that ancient Polynesians considered sacred. Visiting a marae is the best way to understand ancient Polynesian culture. Today, most marae are just piles of stones, but before Europeans arrived in the 18th century, they were centers for social, political, and religious activities, including human sacrifice. Our guide will show you around this sacred site.
- Maraa Grotto - Around 10:10 AM, after visiting the Arahurahu marae, we will head to the Maraa Grotto. We will walk through a rainforest with lush freshwater pools, small caves, and the dripping grotto itself, surrounded by ferns, which Paul Gauguin mentioned in his letters. (easy terrain)
- Taharuu Beach - Driving along the west coast, we will stop around 11:00 AM at Taharuu surf beach, a black sand beach on Tahiti’s west coast. The area is beautiful, with many palms and trees. The waves are often strong, making it suitable for beginner surfers.
- The Water Gardens of Vaipahi - Around 11:45 AM, we will visit the Vaipahi Gardens, located along Tahiti’s southern coast in Mataiea. The Vaipahi Gardens are a lush paradise, featuring more than 75 plant species from around the world (with signs and information in English and French), exotic flowers, a lily pond, and streams winding through the area. Visitors have praised the well-maintained natural attraction, its tranquility, easy-to-navigate trails, small waterfalls, and vibrant flora.
- Taravao Plateau - After visiting the Vaipahi Gardens, we will head to the small island of Tahiti Iti for lunch, with an estimated arrival time of 12:45 PM. Enjoy a 270° view of the Big Island of Tahiti from the Taravao belvedere on Tahiti Iti. We will have lunch at the plateau, with the option to choose a different restaurant. (Lunch is at the expense of each participant)
- Vairao - After lunch, around 2:10 PM, we will take a 20-minute scenic drive along Tahiti Iti and stop at a local spot to feed the sacred eels (there are about 30 eels to feed).
- Faarumai Waterfalls - At 2:40 PM, after feeding the eels in Vairao, we will take a scenic 40-minute ride from Tahiti Iti to the east coast of the Big Island of Tahiti. We will stop at the highest waterfall in the Faarumai Valley. Through the village of Tiarei, where the road curves around a black-sand beach, it’s a few hundred meters through a chestnut tree forest to the Vaimahutu waterfalls. (Sneakers and bug spray are recommended)
- Arahoho Blowhole - At 3:55 PM, we will stop at the blowhole, where we can see locals bodyboarding. The right swell conditions create a geyser-like fountain of water from the blowhole. Just past the blowhole, there’s a beautiful black-sand beach that is perfect for a picnic.
- Point Venus - At 4:10 PM, we will end our tour at the most popular black sand beach on Tahiti’s east coast. Point Venus is a peninsula on the north coast of Tahiti and was a primary objective of James Cook’s first voyage. Point Venus features a large black sand beach, emerald waters, a historic lighthouse, and a rich history. MGM filmed the famous movie “Mutiny on the Bounty” with Marlon Brando on Point Venus beach. At 5:00 PM, we will drop you off at your hotel.
