Setting Sail on the Wave Dancer

The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I made my way to the dedicated pick-up point for the much-anticipated Wave Dancer cruise. Having heard rave reviews from fellow travelers, I was eager to experience this coastal adventure for myself. The short drive to Paphos Harbour was filled with a sense of excitement, and as we approached the drop-off point, the majestic Wave Dancer came into view.

Upon boarding, I was directed to the upper deck where a sea of sunbeds awaited. I chose one at the front of the boat, away from the speakers, to enjoy the gentle sea breeze and the promise of a relaxing day. As a former professional surfer, the ocean has always been my sanctuary, and today was no exception. Joseph, our cruise director, welcomed us with a safety briefing and an overview of the day’s itinerary, which included two swim stops, live entertainment, and an open bar. The atmosphere was electric, and I couldn’t wait to dive into the adventure.

Exploring the Crystal Waters

As the Wave Dancer set sail, the live entertainment kicked off with two talented singers who had everyone dancing from the start. The first swim stop was at the stunning Coral Bay, where the crystal-clear waters beckoned. Equipped with life jackets, noodles, kayaks, and snorkeling gear, I plunged into the refreshing sea, eager to explore the vibrant marine life below.

The underwater world was a kaleidoscope of colors, with schools of fish darting around the coral reefs. It reminded me of the countless hours I’ve spent surfing and snorkeling in the Caribbean, where the ocean’s beauty never ceases to amaze me. After a delightful swim, we were treated to a sumptuous BBQ feast on board, complete with mouthwatering meats, fresh salads, and decadent desserts. The camaraderie among fellow travelers was infectious, and it felt like a gathering of old friends sharing stories of their adventures.

The second swim stop was near the Coral Beach Hotel, where Joseph regaled us with fascinating tales of Cyprus’s history and the British Olympic team’s training sessions. As we cruised along the coast, we were treated to views of two shipwrecks, their haunting silhouettes a reminder of the sea’s mysteries. Joseph’s storytelling brought the past to life, and I found myself captivated by the rich tapestry of history woven into the island’s shores.

As the afternoon sun began to dip, the Wave Dancer made its way back to Paphos Harbour. The sound of ‘Zorba the Greek’ filled the air, and no one could resist joining in the dance as we approached the port. It was a fitting end to a day filled with laughter, exploration, and a deep connection to the sea. As I disembarked, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to experience such a remarkable journey.
