Our journey starts in Paramaribo, from where we will take a bus or car to Weg Naar Zee. Here, we’ll explore a Hindu temple, a sacred pilgrimage site for certain Surinamese communities, and a crematorium.
Our next destination is Saramacca, a place where locals primarily earn their living through livestock farming and growing rice and vegetables. We’ll also make a stop at Groningen, the capital of Saramacca, which will captivate you with its tiny square peppered with numerous monuments that narrates the multicultural storytelling of Suriname’s past.
Leaving Saramacca behind, we’ll cross the Coppename river to reach Boskamp, where you’ll get an inside look into the preparation of the renowned “warme vis”. This traditional fish-smoking method, used in times past for preservation, is still practised today.
Our final stop will be Coronie, famous as the Coconut district. Once reliant on coconut farming for its income, Coronie is now also recognized for its beekeeping activities, authentic honey, and picturesque scenery of swaying coconut palms.
