Paris - 07:30 AM: Begin the day with a hotel pick-up and head to Normandy in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. A rest stop will be included during the journey.
Normandy American Cemetery - 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Arrive and explore the Normandy American Cemetery & Visitor Center in Colleville-sur-Mer, overlooking Omaha Beach. This cemetery is the resting place for 9,387 U.S. soldiers, most of whom perished during the Normandy landings, and features the Wall of the Missing with 1,557 names. The cliffs above the beaches still hold remnants of German defenses, including concrete bunkers with memorials. Visitors can also see the semicircular memorial colonnade and the “Spirit of American Youth Rising from the Waves” sculpture. The Visitor Center includes a small museum with detailed information on the Battle of Normandy.
12:00 PM: Depart for the nearby Overlord Museum.
Overlord Museum - Omaha Beach - 12:10 PM - 12:50 PM: Explore the Overlord Museum, located a short distance from the Normandy American Cemetery. The museum houses an extensive collection of WWII artifacts, such as tanks, weapons, military vehicles, a V-1 missile, and personal items. The exhibits provide a deeply personal and immersive D-Day experience.
12:50 PM: Head to Omaha Beach, a brief 5-minute drive (5 km).
Omaha Beach - 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM: Arrive at the Omaha Beach Signal Monument. Enjoy lunch and learn about the significant sacrifices made by the 34,000 men who landed here on D-Day. Omaha Beach is the most visited of the D-Day beaches, renowned for its historical importance and the intense battles that took place.
2:00 PM: Depart for Pointe du Hoc, a 15-minute drive away.
Pointe du Hoc - 2:15 PM - 3:00 PM: Arrive at Pointe du Hoc, a strategic cliff between Utah and Omaha Beach. This site was crucial during the D-Day landings as it was the highest point between the two beaches, allowing it to target both. It housed a heavily fortified German gun battery, part of Hitler’s Atlantic Wall defenses. Learn about the bravery of the 2nd Ranger Battalion, who famously scaled the cliffs to neutralize the guns on June 6, 1944. Many original fortifications, including bunkers and the fire control casemate, remain intact, with a monument to the Rangers atop the site.
Eglise Saint-Come-et-Saint-Damien d’Angoville-au-Plain - 3:30 PM - 3:50 PM: Visit Church Saint-Come-et-Saint-Damien in Angoville-au-Plain. During D-Day, medics Robert Wright and Kenneth Moore from the 101st Airborne set up a field hospital in this small church. They provided medical care to 80 soldiers from both sides and even treated a child. Remarkably, blood stains from the event are still visible on the pews. When several German soldiers entered, they saw the medics treating both Americans and Germans, so they quietly left, marking the door with a Red Cross. This poignant site serves as a testament to the humanity during the chaos of war.
3:50 PM: Depart for the Utah Beach Landing Museum (10-minute drive).
Utah Beach - 4:00 PM - 4:30 PM: Arrive at Utah Beach. Enjoy free time to explore and learn about Utah Beach. Located next to Omaha Beach, Utah Beach is the westernmost of the five D-Day beaches and features numerous museums, memorials, and monuments. On June 6, 1944, 23,000 American soldiers stormed Utah Beach to capture the town of Cherbourg and its strategic deep-water port. Despite heavy preparation, casualties were relatively light, with 197 men lost, including 60 missing. Key units that landed here included the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, as well as several infantry and tank divisions. The area near the Utah Beach Landing Museum offers further insights into these pivotal events.
Musee du Debarquement Utah Beach - 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM: Visit the Utah Beach Landing Museum. Built atop a former German bunker, this museum showcases a large collection of historical artifacts, military vehicles, and one of only six remaining B-26 bombers. The exhibits provide a powerful insight into the events of D-Day and the role Utah Beach played in the success of the Normandy landings.
5:30 PM: Depart for Mont Saint-Michel. The drive takes approximately 1.5 hours (130 km).
