Paris - 07:30 Hotel pick-up and departure to Normandy in our comfortable, air-conditioned Mercedes. A stop at a rest area will be included.
Normandy American Cemetery - 11:00 - 12:00 Arrival and visit to the Normandy American Cemetery & Visitor Center in Colleville-sur-Mer, overlooking Omaha Beach. It holds 9,387 U.S. soldiers, most of whom perished during the Normandy Landings, and the Wall of the Missing, listing 1,557 soldiers missing in action. The cliffs leading to the beaches contain remnants of German defenses, including concrete casemates with memorials to the soldiers. At the Normandy American Cemetery, you will also see the semicircular memorial colonnade with the sculpture “Spirit of American Youth Rising from the Waves” and large maps of military operations. The Visitors Center features a small museum with extensive information about the Battle of Normandy. 12:00 Departure to the nearby Overlord Museum.
Overlord Museum - Omaha Beach - 12:10 - 12:50 Visit the Overlord Museum. Located just a few hundred meters from the Normandy American Cemetery, this museum houses numerous WWII artifacts and installations, such as tanks, weapons, guns, military vehicles, a V-1 missile, personal belongings, and more. It provides a personal insight into D-Day. 12:50 Departure to Omaha Beaches, a short 5-minute (5 km) drive.
Omaha Beach - 13:00 - 14:00 Arrival at Omaha Beach Signal Monument. Time for lunch. Learn about the immense sacrifice made by the 34,000 men who landed here on D-Day. Omaha Beach is the most popular travel destination among the D-Day Beaches. 14:00 Departure to Pointe du Hoc, a 15-minute drive.
Pointe du Hoc - 14:15 - 15:00 Arrival at Pointe du Hoc, a prominent cliff between Utah and Omaha Beach. This site was crucial as it was the highest point between Omaha and Utah beaches, capable of firing upon both. The site was a gun battery, fortified with concrete casemates and gun pits, forming part of Hitler’s Atlantic Wall defenses. At Pointe du Hoc, you will learn about the 2nd Ranger Battalion’s sacrifice to capture this vital gun battery on the cliffs of Omaha Beach on June 6th, 1944. Many original fortifications and bunkers remain open to the public, including the fire control casemate, topped with a monument to the 2nd Ranger Battalion.
Église Saint-Côme-et-Saint-Damien - 15:30 - 15:50 Stop at Church Saint-Come-et-Saint-Damien in Angoville-au-Plain. During D-Day, medics Robert Wright and Kennith Moore from the 101st Airborne set up a field hospital in this small church. They provided medical care to 80 combatants from both sides and one child, using the church pews as hospital beds. Remarkably, blood stains remain on the pews. Several Germans entered the church but, seeing the medics treating wounded from both sides, quietly left and marked the door with a Red Cross.
15:50 Departure to the Utah Beach Landing Museum, a 10-minute (10 km) drive.
Utah Beach - 16:00 - 16:30 Arrival at Utah Beach. Free time to explore Utah Beach. Adjacent to Omaha Beach, Utah Beach is the westernmost of the five Normandy D-Day Beaches, now home to many museums, memorials, and monuments. Utah Beach was the first beach stormed by 23,000 American soldiers on June 6, 1944, aiming to capture the town of Cherbourg and its deep-water port. Casualties were relatively light, with 197 (including 60 missing). Units landing on Utah Beach included the 82nd Airborne Division, 101st Airborne Division, VII Corps, 4th Infantry Division, 90th Infantry Division, 4th Cavalry Regiment, and 70th Tank Battalion.
