Duration: 13 hours

Highlights
  • Omaha Beach - Omaha Beach was known to be the most difficult military objective when the invasion of Normandy was being planned. In order to be sure that the Allied forces took it the youngest and most foolhardy soldiers were assigned to it, most of them were American. You’ll walk on the same sands as them and learn about their acts of heroism and sacrifice.

  • Overlord Museum - Omaha Beach - Operation Overlord was the code name given to the Allied Invasion of northwest Europe. This museum has an unequaled collection of military equipment that was used to either defend or attack the coast of Normandy. Such as a full-sized authentic Higgins boat, with its front flap down, and impressive Sherman and Panzer tanks.

  • Batterie Allemande de Longues-Sure-Mer - This German Battery has a fully intact Command Bunker and 3 other bunkers that are still armed with huge 150 mm guns today. You’ll climb inside the bunkers with your guide and find out what happened on the morning of D-day from the Axis perspective. Learning about Rommel’s defenses known as the “Atlantic Wall”.

  • Domaine de l’Hostréière - For lunch, you will stop at a mom-and-pop style restaurant such as the l’Hostéière. On the coast, there are no fancy restaurants. There are only little places with fresh local foods such as salads, omelets, barbecued meats, and crepes. We do not include your lunch in our tour price. You can pick whatever you want from the menu. Plan on spending 10-20€.

  • Pointe du Hoc - The Pointe-du-Hoc was a strategic German defensive point that had huge guns pointed towards both Omaha and Utah Beaches. On D-day, it was a top priority to capture. Here you will walk around huge bomb craters to the edge of a 110ft tall, seaside cliff. Learn how Rudders Rangers climbed it with rocket-powered grappling hooks and their bayonets.

  • Cimetiere Americain de Colleville-sur-Mer - Here 9,388 white marble tombs stand in perfectly straight lines. You’ll walk among the Crosses and Stars of David with your guide and pay your respects to those who sacrificed everything. You’ll visit Medal of Honor winners and also the Niland brothers whose real-life story inspired the movie “Saving Private Ryan”.

  • Ferme de la Sapiniere - Before there was a war there were apple trees to tend in Normandy. The apple orchards in Normandy grow dozens of different varieties of apples and turn them into amazing apple juices, hard ciders, and strong liquor called Calvados. We’ll stop at one of the local orchards and you’ll get to taste some of Normandy’s famous Cider. We’ll pay for your tasting.

Great Memories for a Family - Enzo was an amazing guide! He was very knowledgeable and respectful. He never rushed anyone and made sure everyone was happy with their experience. We loved seeing the major locations from operation overlord! Walking in the sand and water at Omaha Beach, and lunch at a 12th century castle followed by a cider tasting were a nice treat on our day away from the hustle and bustle of Paris. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone!

Comprehensive perspective of WWII history. - This trip is a must see. Beautiful ride through the countryside. Our guide Antoine took care to avoid crowds with timing of the stops. Great lunch choice. The museum was the most comprehensive collection of WWII artifacts I ever saw. The cemetery is impressive. Be prepared for a long enjoyable day.

Worth the time - Antoine was an excellent tour guide! We really enjoyed our day in Normandy, visiting the D-Day sites. Antoine's explanations and knowledge were helpful for us to understand what happened. We also really enjoyed our lunch at the restaurant next to the cidery.

Memorable Day - Memorable day honoring the many who gave their lives for our future. Normandy is a must see! Humbling. Great guide! Even spoke to our lost luggage delivery man for us when the call came in, since we don’t speak French. Loved meeting our fellow travelers.

Small group...big experience! - Excellent tour. It exceeded all our expectations. Our tour guide Julian was informative & friendly. We enjoyed the small group experience (8 people in a mini van) as opposed to a whole bus load of people.

Tour - Great tour. The guide was very good. I would have liked to have seen point du hoc too. That was all that was missing. The museum stop is ok, but going on the beach was awesome.

Sites were amazing but tour guide wasn’t great. - When booking a tour like this we are paying for the experience with a tour guide. Our guide was very quiet and didn’t share much detail other than what went with the pictures he was given to share. He was very quiet and only spoke when asked questions. The tour should have been more of a learning experience but with this particular guide we were left to piece the small information he gave us with our own knowledge. I was hoping for more of a learning experience. But, overall it was great seeing the sites. When we got to the American cemetary we overheard another tour guide company offering facts which was really cool making it more upsetting that we didn’t receive more information from the tour guide.

Conflicting Directions and Horrible Customer Service - Two meeting locations were listed on the Viator website. I sent a message to the Tour Operator listed on the website for this tour 17 hours in advance of the planned departure. I sent another one 11 hours in advance. I did not receive a response until several hours after the tour was scheduled to begin. That response said the Normandy tour was canceled for July 26. The last communication I had received, on July 23, said that, due to the Paris Olympics, the tour would depart from 26 Boulevard Auguste Blanqui, so I arrived there at 6:45 AM, 30 minutes prior to the departure time. No one was there. I called the number listed for this tour on the Viator website, but could not get through until 7 AM. I was then advised the tour had been cancelled and I should have been advised of that. Adding to the problem, I had to pay $60 for cab fares from and back to my hotel. About two minutes later, I received a call telling me the tour was about to depart from a Wagram address. CONFUSION REINS!!!!! I was at least 45 minutes away from that location and they would not wait for me to get there, so I missed the tour. I then contacted Viator. What should have taken five minutes to resolve wound up being a contentious 45 minute call with no resolution to my very simple, straightforward problem.
