In 1916, just a year before passing away, Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) gifted all his collected works and personal items to the French nation. In return, the government bought the Hôtel Biron with a promise to transform it into a museum dedicated to him. The Paris establishment was inaugurated in 1919 and the Meudon site in 1948. Rodin’s donation formed the cornerstone of the Musée Rodin, tying together a prime location in one of Paris’ most beautiful gardens with the works of a preeminent sculptor of his era.
The gifted molds and models are used to create original bronze casts, facilitating the global distribution of his work.
