Clock Tower Square - Located in the heart of Thimphu city, this square features a clock tower surrounded by shops and hotels. While it’s a notable spot in Thimphu, it can be disappointing due to broken pavement stones, large potholes, litter, and ongoing construction. However, there are a few upscale coffee shops for tourists around the square.

Tashichho Dzong (Thimpu Dzong) - Tashichho Dzong is a Buddhist monastery and fortress situated on the northern edge of Thimphu, Bhutan, on the western bank of the Wang Chu River.

Buddha Dordenma - The Buddha Dordenma is the largest sitting statue of Buddha, standing at 51.5 meters tall and made of solid bronze. Inside the statue are 125,000 smaller Buddha statues, including 25,000 that are 12 inches tall and 100,000 that are 8 inches tall. Tourists often visit to admire its outstanding view and the serene expression of the giant Buddha.

Motithang Takin Preserve - Located in the Motithang district of Thimphu, Bhutan, this wildlife reserve is dedicated to the Bhutan takin, the national animal of Bhutan. Originally a mini-zoo, it was converted into a preserve when it was found that the animals did not venture into the surrounding forest even when released.

Thangthong Dewachen Nunnery - This Buddhist monastery, also known as the Zilukha Anim Dratshang, is located in Zilukha, overlooking Tashichodzong. It is just a few minutes’ drive from the town.

Jungshi Handmade Paper Factory - This small factory produces traditional Bhutanese paper from the bark of the daphne bush. Visitors can observe the entire process.

National Library and Archives of Bhutan - Established in 1967, the National Library of Bhutan in Thimphu aims to preserve and promote Bhutan’s rich cultural and religious heritage.

Folk Heritage Museum Kawajangsa - Housed in a 3-story 19th-century traditional rammed mud and timber house over 150 years old, this museum features paddy, wheat, and millet fields, a watermill, kitchen gardens, and a hot stone bath. The ground floor resembles a barn, the upper floor a storage area, and the top floor a living and dining area.

Thimphu To Punakha

Dochula Pass - This mountain pass in the snow-covered Himalayas of Bhutan lies on the road from Thimphu to Punakha. It features 108 memorial chortens or stupas known as “Druk Wangyal Chortens,” built by Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk, the eldest Queen Mother.

Chimi Lhakhang Temple - Also known as Chime Lhakhang, this Buddhist monastery in Punakha District, Bhutan, is located near Lobesa. It stands on a round hillock and was founded in 1499 by the Drukpa Kagyu lama Ngawang Chogyal, the 14th abbot of Ralung Monastery.

Punakha Dzong - Known as Pungthang Dewa chhenbi Phodrang, this administrative center of Punakha District in Bhutan was constructed by Ngawang Namgyal, the 1st Zhabdrung Rinpoche, in 1637–38. It is the second oldest and second-largest dzong in Bhutan and one of its most majestic structures.

Punakha Suspension Bridge - This long metal bridge spans a mountain river and is adorned with colorful Buddhist prayer flags.

Punakha To Paro

Tachog Lhakhang - Also referred to as Tashog or Tamchhog Lhakhang, this small private temple and traditional suspension bridge are located about 15 km from Paro town on the way to Thimphu. It was built in the 16th century by Tibetan saint Thangton Gampo, also known as Thang Tong Gyalpo.

Rinpung Dzong - Sometimes called Paro Dzong, this large dzong in Paro District, Bhutan, is a Buddhist monastery and fortress of the Drukpa Lineage of the Kagyu school. It houses the district Monastic Body and government administrative offices of Paro Dzongkhag.

National Museum of Bhutan འབྲུག་གི་འགྲེམས་སྟོན་ཁང་། - Located in Paro, this cultural museum was established in 1968 in the renovated ancient Ta-dzong building above Rinpung Dzong, under the command of His Majesty King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the third hereditary Monarch of Bhutan.

Paro Sightseeing

Paro Taktsang - Also known as Tiger’s Nest, this sacred Vajrayana Himalayan Buddhist site is located on a cliffside in the upper Paro valley. It is one of thirteen Tiger’s Nest caves in historical Tibet where Padmasambhava practiced and taught Vajrayana.

Kyichu Lhakhang - Situated north of Paro town, this is one of the oldest and most beautiful temples in Bhutan.
