Highlights

Day 1: Paro Arrival, Thimphu Transfer (Airport Pickup, Tamchog Lhakhang, Buddha Dordenma, National Memorial Chorten)

Tachog Lhakhang - Welcome to Bhutan! Upon arrival in Paro, our local representative will greet you at the airport before we head to Thimphu, the capital city, a scenic drive of about 1.5 hours covering 50km. En route, we’ll visit Tamchog Lhakhang Iron Bridge, Buddha Dordenma Statue, and the National Memorial Chorten. If time permits, we’ll also stop by the Bhutan Post Office Headquarters, where you can personalize stamps with your face. After this enriching tour, you’ll check into your hotel in Thimphu to relax and adjust to the local time.

Day 2: Thimphu to Punakha (Takin Sanctuary, Heritage Museum, Arts School, Trashichho Dzong, Dochula Pass)

Thimphu - In the morning, we’ll explore Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, visiting the Takin Sanctuary, Folk Heritage Museum, School of Arts and Crafts, and Trashichho Dzong. Then, we’ll embark on a scenic drive to Punakha via Dochula Pass, a 2.5-hour journey covering 74km, where 108 memorial chortens honor Bhutanese soldiers lost in a 2003 war, offering breathtaking views of the snow-capped Himalayas on clear days. After our travels, you can unwind and relax at your hotel.

Day 3: Punakha to Paro (Khamsum Yueley Namgyal Chorten, Punakha Dzong, Chimi Lhakhang)

Paro - In the morning, we’ll explore Khamsum Yueley Namgyal Chorten and Punakha Dzong before making our way back to Paro from Punakha, a journey of approximately 115km taking about 2.5 hours. In the afternoon, we’ll visit Chimi Lhakhang. Upon arrival in Paro, you’ll have the chance to check in at the hotel and unwind.

Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, situated on the west bank of the Mo Chhu river, is a testament to Bhutanese art and architecture, built in 1990 to bring peace to Bhutan and the world. Punakha Dzong, known as the “palace of great happiness,” stands majestically at the junction of the Pho Chu and Mo Chu rivers, serving as a significant administrative center and winter residence for the Chief Abbot. Chimi Lhakhang, nestled among rice fields, is a pilgrimage site for childless couples seeking blessings, associated with the Divine Madman, Drukpa Kunley, renowned for his unorthodox methods of enlightenment.

Day 4: Paro Exploration (Visit Tiger’s Nest Monastery, Ta Dzong National Museum)

Paro - Today, we’ll journey from Paro city to the starting point of the Tiger’s Nest Monastery hike, a trek lasting approximately 2.5 hours each way (5 hours round trip), with an opportunity to rest at the halfway view terrace or opt for a horse ride (self-paying) to the Taktsang Cafeteria for lunch. Following the trek, we’ll explore Ta Dzong, also known as the National Museum of Bhutan, boasting Bhutan’s tallest structure—a cylindrical building standing 22 meters (72 feet) high with six floors. Originally built in 1649 as a watchtower above the Rinpung Dzong, it was converted into the National Museum in 1968, housing a diverse collection of ancient artifacts including pottery, armor, thangkas, masks, stamps, photos, statues, costumes, relics, stone axes, and religious paintings. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner featuring a Bhutanese Culture Dance Show in Paro.
