Paro

Paro River - The Paro valley stretches from the meeting point of the Paro Chhu and Wang Chhu rivers at Chuzom to Mt. Jomolhari at the Tibetan border in the north. This scenic area is one of the kingdom’s broadest valleys, adorned with fertile rice fields and a clear, winding river flowing through it.

Paro Taktsang - Paro Taktsang is a significant Himalayan Buddhist sacred site, with a temple complex situated on a cliffside in the upper Paro valley of Bhutan.

Drukgyel Dzong འབྲུག་རྒྱལ་རྫོང་། - Drukgyel Dzong, now in ruins, was a fortress and Buddhist monastery located in the upper Paro District, Bhutan. It was likely constructed by Tenzin Drukdra in 1649 under the direction of Ngawang Namgyal, Zhabdrung Rinpoche, to celebrate a victory over a Tibetan invasion.

Chele La Pass - A scenic pass featuring lush forests, waterfalls, grazing yaks, and expansive views.

Kyichu Lhakhang - Kyichu Lhakhang is a significant Himalayan Buddhist temple located in Lango Gewog of Paro District, Bhutan.

Thimphu

Buddha Dordenma Statue སྟོན་པ་རྡོར་གདན་མ། - The Buddha Dordenma statue stands atop a hill in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park, overlooking the southern entrance to Thimphu Valley. The statue fulfills an ancient prophecy from the 8th century A.D. discovered by Terton Pema Lingpa (Religious Treasure Discoverer) and is believed to radiate peace and happiness to the entire world.

Motithang Takin Preserve - A short distance up the road to the BBS tower viewpoint, a trail leads to a large fenced enclosure originally established as a zoo.

Changlimithang Stadium & Archery Ground - Changlimithang Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan, serving as the National Stadium. It is mainly used for football matches and is home to the Bhutan national football team and several Thimphu-based football clubs that compete in both the A-Division and the National League.

Tashichho Dzong (Thimpu Dzong) - Since 1952, Tashichho Dzong has been the seat of the government and currently houses the throne room and offices of the king, the secretariat, and the ministries of home affairs and finance. Other government departments are located in nearby buildings.

National Folk Heritage Museum - The Folk Heritage Museum, or Phelchey Toenkhyim, is a museum in Thimphu, Thimphu District, Bhutan.

Thimphu Chorten (Memorial Chorten) - The Memorial Stupa, also known as the Thimphu Chorten, is a stupa in Thimphu, Bhutan, situated on Doeboom Lam in the southern-central part of the city near the main roundabout and Indian military hospital.

Simtokha Dzong - Simtokha Dzong, also known as Sangak Zabdhon Phodrang, is a small dzong built in 1629 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, who unified Bhutan. It is the first of its kind in Bhutan.

Phajoding Monastery - Phajoding Monastery is a Buddhist monastery near Thimphu in Bhutan. Once one of the richest and most decorated monasteries in the country, it was listed in 2010 by the World Monuments Fund as an endangered cultural monument due to neglect.

Pangri Zampa Monastery - Pangri Zampa Monastery is a Buddhist monastery in Bhutan.

Sangaygang - This broadcast tower atop a tall hill is a popular spot for hikers and drivers.

Punakha

Punakha Dzong - The Punakha Dzong, also known as Pungtang Dewa chhenbi Phodrang, is the administrative center of Punakha District in Punakha, Bhutan. Built by Ngawang Namgyal, 1st Zhabdrung Rinpoche, in 1637–38, it is the second oldest and second largest dzong in Bhutan and one of its most magnificent structures.

Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten - Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chöten is a chörten in the Punakha district, Bhutan. Built in 2004 by HM the Queen Mother, Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck, it is located in Nyizergang, about a thirty-minute walk uphill from the footbridge in Yepaisa Village.

Punakha Suspension Bridge - Behind Punakha Dzong stretches the Punakha Suspension Bridge, the longest of its kind in Bhutan. The bridge connects the dzong with the villages on the other side of the Po Chhu river – Shengana, Samdingkha, and Wangkha – where traces of the Divine Madman Drukpa Kuenley can still be found in local stories, monasteries, and rock markings.

In these small villages, locals sell their goods in tiny, traditional shops. Visitors can stop here for a quick and authentic glimpse of true Bhutan.

To access the suspension bridge from the dzong, one must walk past the King’s palace and the cremation ground.
