- St. Stephen’s Cathedral - The tour begins at the cathedral square, offering a delightful journey along the Royal Promenade, tracing the footsteps of Barbarossa and Empress Elisabeth “Sissi” of Austro-Hungary.
The first highlight is the true gem of the day: St. Stephen’s Cathedral. It stands as the largest baroque cathedral north of the Alps and houses the largest pipe organ in Europe.
The tour proceeds to the former Bishop’s Residence, leading to the magnificent town hall. Next, cross the Danube via the Luitpold Bridge and ascend the path to the “Veste Oberhaus,” which served as the fortified residence of the bishop of Passau, providing a breathtaking view of the entire city and the river valley.
On the return to the old city, cross the same bridge again to admire and photograph the land’s tip where the three rivers converge to form the mighty Danube. Pass by the local Town Hall, primarily constructed in the late 14th century along the riverbanks. Notice the 19th-century tower featuring the largest carillon in Bavaria.
Take a moment to enjoy the scenery and surroundings before moving on to rediscover the old town and conclude the tour.
