A Touch of Magic and Mystery with a Hint of Christmas
El Rosario Monarch Butterfly Preserve - After a continental breakfast at the hotel, head to El Rosario Butterfly Sanctuary, one of the most extraordinary places to witness nature’s wonders. Each year, millions of monarch butterflies migrate from Canada and the US to winter in Mexico’s oyamel fir forests. Choose to ride a horse or hike to the sanctuary, where you’ll be captivated by the sight of countless butterflies fluttering and resting on the trees. You’ll also have the chance to plant an oyamel tree, the monarchs’ preferred habitat, contributing to their conservation. After lunch and souvenir shopping, travel to Tlalpujahua, a former mining town renowned for its handcrafted Christmas ornaments. Visit Santa’s House, where talented artisans craft exquisite decorations from hand-blown glass. Return to Morelia in the evening and enjoy some leisure time.
Tlalpujahua - Pueblo Mágico - After lunch and souvenir shopping, journey to Tlalpujahua, a former mining town celebrated for its handcrafted Christmas ornaments. Visit Santa’s House, where skilled artisans create stunning decorations from hand-blown glass. Then, explore the cathedral in Tlalpujahua, a magnificent example of Mexican baroque architecture, constructed with pink quarry stone and adorned with intricate details. It is situated in the town’s main square, facing the Plaza Vasco de Quiroga, and surrounded by historic buildings and colorful markets. The cathedral is dedicated to the Virgin of Carmen, Tlalpujahua’s patron saint, and features a grand dome, a bell tower, and a clock. We will then return to Morelia, where the evening is yours to enjoy as you wish.
