A Treasured Experience and a Great Workout - Such an amazing place! I was greeted warmly by Yasmin. Once I stowed my stuff and the other student arrived, our hostess told us the full history of Capoeira and the school through the wonderful collection of photography and clippings that decorate nearly every inch of the wall. Yasmin translated our initial greetings with the Mestre. However, the language barrier was minimal once the music and movement began. He set a nicely challenging pace for two absolute beginners and we mimicked moves like the Ginga, Aú, Cocorinha, and even the Negativa. It was bliss. At one point there was music inside and music outside on the street...it was hard not to get sweep-up in the pure energy of it all. About halfway in we were able to slowly drill the moves in combination decent enough that we earned a few approving nods. Mestre and Yasmin even took pity on my sore knees with some ice and muscle spray after class. Listen, I could not have imagined myself getting to Salvador Bahia and not taking a Capoeira class but finding Associacao De Capoeira Mestre Bimba was an added bonus and a treasured experience. I highly recommend it.

Capoeira Class - The class was amazing! It was just me and the mestre and he really challenged me. A great workout but also amazing to see such skill up close! Makes you really respect it when you realise how hard it is!

Good experience - we had a fantastic class with three good coaches who instructed us in Capoeira. Although we were beginners we tried both dance, attack and defense for good mood, great music. Can warmly recommend

A real challenge for intermediate students - My sister went for a beginner class which she really enjoyed. Whereas I went for an intermediate class… I’ve been practicing capoeira for over 2.5 years. I was worried that I wouldn't find a receptive group in Bahia, but I was wrong. Associação de Capoeira Mestre Bimba was super welcoming, and helped me grow in my Capoeira journey. The members went far and beyond to ensure I enjoyed my stay in Bahia. I was invited to join their Roda, Samba, Makulele performance. It was definitely a highlight of my trip to Brazil… Also, they don’t play around, if you’re intermediate and want a REAL challenge, this is the place to go. Hardest and most fulfilling training session I’ve had this far… Also, Mestre Bamba makes the best Berimbaus in Bahia if you’re thinking about buying one in the birthplace of Capoeira.

A unique experience not to be missed! - This was a fabulous experience in a fascinating location. Very highly recommended. Yasmin is an amazing person - a skilled, brilliant teacher and superb communicator, passionate about capoeira. She began by talking us through the history and political significance of capoeira via the numerous photographs and press cuttings covering the centre’s walls. The class itself was brisk and perfectly paced - teaching us the core movements and how they can be linked together. Come prepared to move your body - it felt great! We returned later in the day for a further demonstration including drumming, traditional instruments, more discussion and to watch training. Also, importantly, your payment contributes to supporting the groups the club runs in disadvantaged local communities. The time we spent & the photos Yasmin took will be forever treasured! Absolute must-do for your time in Salvador.

Hard work but worth it - I have never sweated so much in all my life! Genuinely fun, exhausting, exhilarating, frustrating, challenging... It was a real privilege to be involved with group training and get involved in the roda.
