Shopping in Palermo Viejo
While you're in Palermo, work on your wardrobe. Start at the intersection of Armenia and El Salvador, and just wander from there. Some of my favorite haunts here include: Maria Cher, Maria Vazquez, De la Ostia, and Ayres.
El Ateneo
I'm a sucker for repurposed spaces. Grab a bite and a cappuccino on the stage-turned-café at this incredible theater-turned-bookstore on Santa Fe. There's often a pianist on stage to round out the experience, too.
La Recoleta Cemetery
Get lost in this beautiful little city of mausoleums - you'll forget it's the new millenium. It's almost startling to catch a glance of the modern buildings that surround the cemetery. Be sure to visit Eva Perón's grave, to see how much her people still love her.
More shopping in Recoleta
Recoleta is the Upper East Side of Buenos Aires - the wealthy have put down roots here, and so it's also spotted with great shops. Some of my favorite haunts here include: De Maria on Libertad (shoes), Salsipuedes across the street (clothes), and Humawaca on Posadas (bags). If you miss the mall scene, Patio Bullrich on Posadas is beautiful and has a lot to offer.
Dinner at La Cabrera
Widely recognized as one of the best parrillas (steakhouses) in Buenos Aires, and for good reason. Bife de lomo and bife de chorizo are classic "must"s - if you're adventurous, go for a full parrilla and see how much you can stomach. Remember that Argentines eat late - never before 9pm - so you may have better luck getting a table if you are go early.
Drinks at 878 (OchoSieteOcho)
A former speakeasy, 878 is the perfect place to relax and reflect on a long day. Or, to mentally prepare for a big night out. It's been named one of the world's best bars, so be sure to appreciate your drink :)
Drinks at Milion
Alternatively, you could head down to Paraná (just off of Santa Fe) for drinks at Milion. Here I go again with the repurposed spaces...Milion is an incredible restaurant and bar in a gorgeous, cozy, old mansion. Its great drinks, interesting decor, and swanky clientele make it a total gem.
Mondays: La Bomba del Tiempo
La Bomba at the Ciudad Cultural Konex on Monday nights - do it. Great mix of porteños and gringos (locals and foreigners), great beats, great time.
Wednesdays: Terrazas del Este
AKA "Las Terrazas", this is a hot after work scene and turns into a boliche (club) later in the night. It's especially fun on a nice night, when you can take advantage of the terraces (terrazas!).
Saturdays: Crobar
If you're looking for something more Euro-y (the Argentines often are), Crobar is your spot. It's a little out of the way, so it's the kind of thing you commit to for the night. A ton of fun.
