Manu National Park - Departing from Cusco early in the morning, the journey will take us through fascinating valleys nestled between the Andes mountains and charming rural communities. The itinerary includes a visit to the pre-Incan tombs of the Lupaca culture, followed by a stop in Paucartambo for breakfast and a tour of a beautiful colonial city, including its intriguing museum. Lunch will be enjoyed in the cloud forest, an area teeming with endemic species like the spectacled bear and the cock-of-the-rock, Peru’s national bird known for its unique courtship display. The journey will also offer sightings of orchids, bromeliads, ferns, and more. The day concludes with arrival at Pilcopata Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Manu National Park - After breakfast at the inn, the trip continues by car to Atalaya, with an optional visit to a coca plantation or a hummingbird garden. In Atalaya, rubber boots will be provided before embarking on a 40-minute boat ride to the lodge, where guests can relax or swim in the river. Post-lunch activities include an optional zip-lining experience. In the afternoon, a visit to Lake Machuwasi is planned, where exploration by raft will allow for birdwatching, including the prehistoric hoatzin bird, and possibly spotting other wildlife such as monkeys and capybaras. The day ends with a night walk in the forest to observe insects and amphibians, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.

Amazon Lodge - Parrots Clay Lick - Minivan Ride to Cusco

Manu National Park - The day begins early with a boat trip to the macaw clay lick, a riverbank wall where various parrot species, including the blue-headed parrot, white-eyed parakeet, and chestnut-fronted macaw, gather each morning. These birds consume the mineral-rich clay to aid digestion and detoxification. After returning to the lodge for breakfast, a 40-minute boat ride back to Atalaya is followed by a vehicle journey back to Cusco. Lunch will be enjoyed en route, with an expected arrival in Cusco between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.
