Our family’s recent trip to Peterhead was initially planned around the much-anticipated Red Arrows display for Peterhead Scottish Week. With the event scheduled for the evening, we found ourselves with a day to fill. A family member suggested the Peterhead Prison Museum, and it turned out to be an inspired choice.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendly staff who provided us with headsets for the audio tour. They were incredibly helpful, explaining how to use the headsets and advising us on how to manage the content for our young children. The museum thoughtfully provided a ‘bear treasure hunt’ sheet and crayon, which kept our little ones engaged as they searched for teddy bears with different colored keys throughout the museum.

This flexibility was particularly useful for us as parents, as it allowed us to monitor the content our children were exposed to. On a few occasions, I chose to remove my child’s headset to shield him from certain parts of the tour. This did not detract from his enjoyment, and it was reassuring to know that we could protect his young mind while still allowing him to learn and explore.
