Day trip to Petropolis - We enjoyed a lively day teip to Petropolis. Guide was prompt, knowledgeable, very polite, great driver and spoke excellent English.

Highly recommend this 5-star experience! - Our day trip from Rio to Petropolis was simply amazing! Our guide, Flavio, was prompt, courteous, and very friendly and knowledgeable. He shared a lot of information about day-to-day life, as well as interesting history about the places we visited. We saw some truly breathtaking places and stored wonderful pictures and memories. We highly recommend this experience!

It was great to see more... - It was great to see more than just Rio. To see the mountainous area of Petrópolis was a great accompaniment to our Rio tour. Great view into the history of colonialism in Brazil. Our guide was great to talk to and shared so much with us.

A brilliant day in Petropolis - A brilliant day with Flavio in Petropolis, he was brilliant at answering my questions and brought the various sites we visited to life including seeing the first ever telephone in Brazil! I had never heard of Santos Dumont before my trip and now I am a fan, I won't spoil the surprise but visiting his house was a real treat on the trip. Thank you for a brilliant day and it was definitely worth making the trip from Rio de Janeiro to see a different side to Brazil.

Great tour! - We had a great experience with our guide Flavio who is very knowledgeable, super nice and speaks perfect English! The city is beautiful and was worth the visit. We liked the imperial palace/museum, the house and story of Santos Dumont were also very interesting.

Save a Day for Petropolis when in Rio ! - We had an outstanding private tour with Flavio that allowed to discover the wonderful city of Petropolis. Everyone stays and concentrates in Rio but this a great trip into the mountains outside the city and well worth your time.
This is the imperial city and Emporer Pedro 2 and Theresa ruled from here ! On the scenic drive (1 hr) up the mountains Flavio explained the rich history of Brazil and the imperial family. It is a very nice drive with many picturesque overlooks. After visiting the former casino (huge bavarian style building) Flavio led us personally through the imperial museum and explained all the important exhibits. So much better than just reading place cards.
We then saw the main cathedral de alcantara where the royal family is buried which is excellent gothic architecture and walked through the area seeing the different historic homes and parks. Petropolis is a city made for strolling.
A complete surprise and to me one of the best reasons to see Petropolis was to visit the Santos Dumont home and learn about his life- he was actually the father of aviation (not the Wright Brothers!) and its a fascinating tour through his home.
We had a buffet lunch at a very nice restaurant and saw the crystal palace -
Flavio was passionate about sharing his knowledge and life experiences in Brazil with us - this made the tour so much more enjoyable and the fact that it was a private tour made it more personable.
We give Flavio and the tour of Petropolis an enthusiastic recommendation. Its a special place and you will be really pleased you took the time to visit ...with Flavio !
