HCMC-Mui Ne - The tour guide was really friendly and knowledgeable. We went for the HCMC-Mui Ne tour and it was splendid. Definitely worth the money and breakfast was included as well.

Fun times in Mui Ne! - This was one of the most fun tours we went on in Vietnam!!!! STRONGLY recommend!!!!! Our driver (spoke no English) picked us up from our hotel in district 1 in a luxury van at 1am and delivered us to the tour agency in Mui Ne, about 3 hours away. Once we got to the agency, we were greeted by our tour guide, Lee, and another driver in a small jeep which took us an additional 45 minutes to the white sand dunes. Lee spoke wonderful English and was a skilled photographer which was incredible to have during the tour! Once we got there it was a little confusing but we finally understood that everyone got taken up the sand dunes by ATV to watch the sunrise. If you wanted to do an ATV ride AFTER the sunrise, you could pay an additional fee for 20 minutes of insane fun at that time! If you elected to be the driver and ride solo (with a guide, which was necessary due to the extreme nature of the sand dune trails) cost was 800,000 dong (~$35pp) but if you wanted to ride double (with a guide) and drive it was 600,000 dong for 2 people (~$25 for 2 people) and if you wanted to just be a passenger and not drive, I believe, it was 300,000 dong. You paid at the beginning, then got whisked away to the top of the dunes to watch the sunrise which was absolutely spectacular!!!!! Hope you get there early though because there are TONS of people in the same area all wanting to take pics!!!! Makes it difficult to get a good spot if you are the last to arrive. Once the sunrise is complete, you do your ATV experience (if you chose to pay the additional fee) and I have to tell you it was AMAZING!!!!!! So fun, so fast, so much sand!!!! TOTALLY worth the money! After the ATV and sunrise, we got in the van again and were taken to Red Sand Dunes which were fine and cool to see but it was basically a small, red version of what we had just seen. After the Red Sand Dunes we went to the fishing market, which, I have to say, was honestly one of the coolest things I’ve seen!!!! Lee explained about the use of the round boats instead of “regular” ones and we were privy to the Vietnamese way of life regarding how the fish they catch are sorted, transported, and sold. It was incredible and so humbling to see how hard everyone was working for very little money. After this fascinating experience, we were taken to our final destination - the Fairy Garden. It was a neat little canyon with a stream running through it. The water was cool and felt amazing on our bare feet with serene beauty on either side. Some of the pictures online makes it appear as though there are several colors on the canyon sides when it is really only red and beige colored. It’s a good experience and I’m glad we did it but it was also underwhelming based on the pictures online. Overall, I strongly recommend this tour! You get to see a side of Vietnam few people do AND all the experiences are fun! Plus, we were back at our hotel in Ho Chi Minh by 1pm, leaving us almost a full day to do other activities! Lee was wonderful so ask for him if you’re able!

Johnny Kindness - Actually, I did wrong booking since I didn't pay much attention to pickup point as it is not in Saigon but nearby Mui Ne. But suddenly, I got a call from Johnny, he kindly informed me that he would assist me to cancel my booking and refunded to me. What a gentleman 😭 Thank you once again for your kind assistance Johnny. Hopefully someday we can meet in person 😭

unorganised disappointment - Firstly was notified that due to an issue with the bus company, instead of departing from the office (a 5 minute walk from my hotel, which I chose for convenience to be picked up for tours), I (and the two other people in my tour) would be picked up from our hotels via taxi, which we would need to share the cost of. While the cost wasn't a dealbreaker, it felt like something that should've been covered by the company because it was an external issue on their part. The sleeper bus was cramped and not comfortable, and we ended up arriving an hour earlier than the jeep driver, so we waited in the rain until they arrived. You are basically expected to pay for an ATV as we were told "it takes an hour and 20 minutes to walk to the sunrise location on the sand dunes" and the sun was supposed to rise in about 15 minutes. Disappointingly, we did not get to sunrise, at no fault of the company as it was simply our luck with the weather. As we already paid for the ATV, we were able to ride easily to the lake and back to the pick up spot, I imagine if you initially opted out of the ATV you'd be walking in the sand for the whole duration of the tour. It started raining very heavily on our way to the other locations, and the lack of windows and the leak in the roof of the jeep suddenly felt like an issue. Also, while I understand we take public transport to keep overall costs low, there was very little support in regards to what bus we should get on after we leave the initial office, which stop, etc. After the sleeper bus taking us back to HCM, we were told we get off and get onto another bus to take us to our respective districts. We didn't know which stop to get off, nor did we know which bus to get on, so I had to google translate and ask the Vietnamese people on our bus if we were headed in the right direction. Sleeper bus back was expected to arrive back in HCM around 13:30, but we arrived 15:30 (traffic), so make sure not to make tight plans. All in all, none of these are huge issues, but that everything added up together in one tour magnifies the disorganisation of the tour. Johnny, the owner of the company, asked how I liked the tour after it ended, and after giving my honest thoughts, was given a copy and pasted apology blaming the bus company partnerships when that was not the issue at all. I am fully capable of planning my own trips; I drove cross country from the north of Vietnam to the south by myself for a month. I pay money for tours to give myself a rest day so I don't need to think about where to go next and how to get to my next destination by a certain time. This tour ended up being more confusing to navigate through than experience that I have had in the other 20+ countries that I have solo traveled. The worst part was the lack of accountability. I am not angry or upset about how the tour went-- I made friends that I believe will last a lifetime-- but I believe the guests deserve more clarity and organisation from Johnny's Tour

The worst experience I have had in Vietnam. - It feels deeply unfortunate having to write this review. Firstly the driver showed up at my hostel in Ho Chi Minh (in a car and not a sleeper bus as the website/trip advisor states) earlier than organised and then sped to the Johnny tours offices near Mui Ne, they were closed as it was 3:30am when we were meant to be there at 4am. The driver then left me stranded in the middle of the night in a rural place id never been before without anything open or even much street lights all on my own. That was genuinely really scary. A second driver then picked me up after 30 minutes in a jeep. Unfortunately the weather was really poor and very rainy (this cant be helped) so there was no visible sunrise and we did not stay long at each stop. As another review states, there is no option to drive the ATV yourself and its is basically mandatory to pay for the lift on the back of one to prevent walking for 30 minutes in sand in the dark so the website is very misleading. The tour then finished 2 hours prior to planned and I was again dumped by myself at the nearest place they could find (this was so early that even still hardly anything was open) and told to hang about for 2 hours until my bus came. Absolutely shocking organisation and communication from a tour that appears to be spoken of quite highly on trip advisor. They could not get rid of me quick enough and then had the cheek to ask me for the extra 40 USD for being a solo booking. I phoned johnny tours to let him know about my experience and to be fair to him he apologised and discounted the 40USD to 20 which was something. To be clear that is discount on the extra solo traveller charge and not the €80 tour cost. So I thought surely that was the last of it😂. I then waited for the bus (which was late). I was given a ticket from the tour office indicating a bed/seat number on the bus. This seat did not exist and I had to encounter an angry bus driver who slammed the breaks , stopped the bus , basically pushed me to a seat at the back and told me that was my one, (it said B-11 and my ticket said C-12). I was then woken up twice by people confused as to why I was in that seat. The bus then stopped about 20 minutes out of Ho Chi Minh and the same angry bus driver shouted at me to get off the bus, I was literally told by Johnny before I left Mui Ne that I can “relax and sleep on the bus it will take me to Ho Chi Minh” and he failed to mention there was a change over to a non sleeper bus. This lead to more confusion from me and verbal abuse from the sleeper bus driver. I very rarely leave a review on these platforms (and have never in my life left a bad one) but I am doing so because of how awful my day was I wouldn’t want anyone especially another solo traveler to have to go through this.
