You’ll reach the quaint, easy-going town of Fikardou by late morning. This rustic locale appears frozen in time with its historical houses and cobblestone streets. Take the opportunity to wander and discover that old customs prevail here. The town is so impeccably maintained, it’s on UNESCO’s tentative list of world heritage properties. Following this, we move to the secluded 12th-century Macharias Monastery, nestled on a remote hill. Its ornate interior hosts an esteemed icon of the Virgin Mary.

Subsequently, we journey to the delightful village of Lefkara, celebrated for its handmade laces and embroideries. Stavroula comments, ‘You’d often find ladies of all ages intricately crafting laces outside their houses and shops. Men from the village have been selling it across Europe for centuries, even Leonardo da Vinci was a customer.’ The expedition wraps up splendidly at Skarinou village. Here, partake in hands-on halloumi and bread-making activities, followed by a ‘KM0’ meal composed of locally-sourced ingredients at a family-owned establishment.
