Day 1: Arrival in Phnom Penh – City Tour
Welcome to Phnom Penh! The city beautifully blends traditional Khmer and colonial styles, featuring French villas and tree-lined sidewalks. After a brief rest, visit the stunning Khmer-style Royal Palace complex, built in 1866 by the predecessors of King Norodom. Nearby, explore the Silver Pagoda (the Emerald Buddha Temple), home to numerous Buddha statues adorned with gold, diamonds, gemstones, and silver. Stop by the Independence Monument and the National Museum, a magnificent Khmer architectural building housing over 5,000 art pieces made from bronze, wood, gold, silver, copper, sandstone, and more. Stroll through the riverfront park where four rivers, including the mystical Mekong, converge. Ascend the sacred hill of Phnom Daun Penh, which shares its name with the pagoda and the capital city. Finally, visit the Central Market, a vast market built in 1937 with a dome design and four extending arms, featuring countless stalls. The initial design and layout were created by French architect Louis Chauchon. Enjoy the evening and overnight stay in Phnom Penh!
Day 2: Phnom Penh – City Tour (B)
After breakfast at the hotel, visit the Choeung Ek Museum, where approximately 17,000 men, women, children, and infants were detained and tortured at S-21 before being transported for extermination between 1975 and 1978. Continue to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, formerly S-21, the Khmer Rouge’s premier security camp for interrogating and exterminating anti-Angkor elements. After reflecting on Cambodia’s tragic history, enjoy lunch (at your own expense) and shop at the bustling Russian Market. Conclude the day with a sunset cruise on the Mekong and Tonle Sap Rivers at the “Four Arms” section, where the Mekong meets the Tonle Sap River before splitting into two branches. Enjoy the evening and overnight stay in Phnom Penh!
