Best Cambodian tuk tuk 6hr trip ever! - Thong (our guide) met us early directly at the hotel, he was extremely friendly and spoke good English. We started the 2.30pm arvo tour feeling exceptionally comfortable and safe. We hopped in our tuk tuk with driver Tran (also lovely) and headed to Silk Island across multiple ferries. Thong was an exceptional guide and took the time to explain about the farmers, their farming methods and their produce, of course silk weaving, & how bean curd is made (foreigners should never again complain about their work office conditions!), the curd is made 24x7 and rotated by family members on watch. Thong was extremely helpful and patient with our many cultural questions and observant of our needs (WC, water etc), and even made a quick stop when we showed interest in home made donuts on the side of the street (ps, delicious by the way). We cannot recommend Thong highly enough of Vana Adventure Travel (his own company), he truly is inspirational of his knowledge and care for the Cambodian people! This was the best trip we had during our 2wk stay across Vietnam and Cambodia. Thank you Thong.

A memorable at the Silk island - The guide was great. He told us about the local Cambodian culture. The ferry ride on the Mekong was memorable. We visited. colourful local markets and a silk farm where they showed us how to spin silk. And showed us how the silkworms are harvested to make silk. We walked through a village and had local Cambodian lunch on a floating restaurant. We loved it.

A really good rural experience - This tour was great! We went out of Phnom Penh by tuk tuk and spent the afternoon visiting various islands and seeing a range of rural lifestyles and crafts. We also visited a couple of beautiful temples and a nunnery which were amazing, then finished up with dinner at a local restaurant. Our guide was really wonderful and was so helpful making the day work out well for us. Driving on and off the various ferries in a tuk tuk was hilarious, and the whole experience was just one of the best things I’ve ever done in SE Asia.

A wonderful afternoon with locals - We booked this tour on a last minute, but it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. The tour takes you to see non touristy part of Phnom Penh, from the ferry used by commuters through ride through small villages and through fields and visit of local temple. Our guide and tuk tuk driver were both very friendly. Guide was very knowledgable and willing to share information about Cambodia, which showed his love of his country. Dinner at the local restaurant overlooking the river, was very peaceful and tasteful. It was a perfect tour to get closer to real Cambodia.

Silk Island and countryside tour by Tuk Tuk with Thong Chea of Vana Adventure Travel - An incredible day with Thong Chea our tour guide and founder of Vana Adventure Travel and Yat our tuk tuk driver. After a short and picturesque view of Phonm Penh crossing of the Mekong River, we arrived at one of the islands on the trip. Throughout the day, Thong took us through the countryside, stopping at rice, water-lily and ginger fields explaining how the families own the fields, how they sow, grow and rotate crops throughout the year. we even got to smell fresh ginger leaves. We stopped off at one to the silk makers homes and had some fruit snacks before given a tour and watched silk scarves being made and how the process from silkworm to product is done. We drove through many small villages on the tuk tuk, sampling life on the islands. And walked around a lovely pagoda temple on one of the islands. Thong took us to a place by the river, owned by a family and we had lunch on a floating dining area on the river. The food was amazing and we had our first taste of Krud beer, which was light and very tasty. We drove some more around the wonderful countryside and crossing islands. It was a hot day, but cooler than the city, but there was plenty of cold water to drink onboard the tuk tuk. It was a delightful, informative and fun day out of the city. Highly recommend booking this trip. Thong was a fantastic guide and we asked about him and his family and he had a fascinating story to tell. A highlight of out holiday in Cambodia.

Awesome tuk tuk tour of the country side- silk Island seeing farms, silk making process and soya bean business. - This was a fantastic tour of the country side of silk island in Phnom Penh. We were picked up by our tour guide and owner Mr Thong Chea, and driven safely by our Tuk tuk driver. We got to catch a ferry across to Silk Island seeing the area around the river. The tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and shared a lot with us about the area, farms and Cambodia history. We visited a family run silk farm where we had fresh fruits and steamed cake. We were shown the process of how silk is made and weaved, we even got to have a try at weaving. We saw many farms along the way of bananas, taro, ginger and rice. We found the family owned soya bean curd business and saw the process of making the curd, and getting to taste some also. Finally we enjoyed a lunch on a relaxing floating restaurant. A great way to finish off an excellent tour. Highly recommend this tour to see the countryside.

The “simple” life of silk - I had no idea the process involved in producing a silk scarves or sarongs. It’s so complicated and takes so much patience. It makes me appreciate the product more knowing now that so much work is put into producing it.

Uniquely Rewarding Experience of Country Life - We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Silk Island with our interesting and well spoken guide and careful tuk tuk driver. Our visit to the small family run silk ‘farm’ and weavers was low key and educational and there was no pressure to buy if you didn’t want to. But the examples of lovely scarves and table runners was impossible to resist. We also were impressed by the family run soya bean curd business. We enjoyed our journey around the islands and on the ferries and had a wonderful dinner on a floating restaurant - again, very low key but perfect for the peace and quiet and quality of food. Highly recommend this tour to see another side of Cambodian life that tourists rarely experience - so near to the big city but feels so far away.

Terrible experience! Avoid it! - Terrible experience! To start with the ‘guide’—not knowledgeable and professional at all. He was more interested in our country than sharing any knowledge about Cambodia. The silk farm was not a farm at all! Two or three ladies pretended they were working and producing silk when they saw us coming, selling as if it were locally produced, but actually storing packets of ready-made scarfs. Dinner was awful. How can you take tourists to such a dirty, disgusting place? They brought crockery with ants, and the guide and the driver, who were sharing the dinner with us, couldn’t manage to clear the cutlery and plates. Not a word to the waitress! Then the food—awful, with ants and wasps inside! Avoid the company by all means!
