- Wat Phu Khao Thong (Golden Mount) - Wat Phukhao Thong, also known as the Monastery of the Golden Mount, is located 2 km northwest of Ayutthaya in the Phukhao Thong Sub-district, off the city island in the plains.
The monastery was established by King Ramesuan (r. 1369-1370 / 1388-1395) in 1395. The temple’s name refers to the tall chedi on its northeast side. At the time of the monastery’s construction, this chedi did not exist, suggesting the temple may have had a different name.
- Wat Yai Chai Mang Khon - Constructed during the reign of King U-Thong, this monastery is located southeast of the city, in the direction of the railway station. Its large pagoda is visible from afar. King Naresuan the Great ordered the pagoda’s construction to commemorate his victory in single-handed combat on elephant back.
- Wat Mahathat - Wat Phra Mahathat in Thailand was a royal temple of the Ayutthaya Kingdom. It is one of the oldest and most important temples in Ayutthaya’s history, as it housed the Buddha’s holy relic.
- Ayutthaya Elephant Palace & Royal Kraal - The Pavilion, used as the royal seat to observe the elephant roundup, is located north of the city island. In the past, wild elephants were trained here to become war or transport animals. It is believed that during the Ayutthaya period, the stockade was within the city wall, but this one was constructed later and used until the Bangkok period.
- Wat Phra Sri Sanphet - Located within the Grand Palace compound, the foundations of which are still visible, it served as the royal chapel, similar to Wat Phra Kaeo in Bangkok. This Wang Lung Palace (Royal Palace) was built by King U-Thong upon the city’s founding.
