The temple boasts ancient structures, murals, and a well-known Buddha image entwined in a tree’s roots.
- Wat Ratchaburana (Temple of the Royal Restoration) - Wat Ratchaburana is a historically important Buddhist temple celebrated for its exquisite main prang. The monastery was established in 1424 by King Borommarachathirat II on the cremation site of his two elder brothers who perished in a royal succession duel. Although it was looted in 1957, the temple still showcases remnants of original stucco work, depictions of mythical creatures, Sri Lankan stupas, precious frescoes, and Buddha images.
- Wat Phra Sri Sanphet - Wat Phra Si Sanphet served as the royal chapel and spiritual center for the Thai people, notable for its role in royal ceremonies and its three chedis housing the ashes of three Ayutthaya kings. Despite severe damage to its enormous Buddha image during the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767, the temple, which has undergone extensive restoration efforts, remains a key historical and archaeological site.
- Wat Chaiwatthanaram - Wat Chaiwatthanaram, a major tourist attraction in Ayutthaya Historical Park, is a Buddhist temple constructed in 1630 by King Prasat Thong, designed in Khmer style to honor his mother and celebrate the Ayutthaya Kingdom’s victory over Longvek. The temple features a magnificent central 35-meter-high prang surrounded by four smaller prangs, eight chedi-shaped chapels with intricate Buddha reliefs, and an ordination hall. It was destroyed in 1767 by the Burmese but was restored by the Thai Department of Fine Arts in 1987.
- Chao Sam Phraya National Museum - Chao Sam Phraya National Museum showcases artifacts recovered from the temples of Wat Ratchaburana and Wat Mahathat, including relics, gold articles, jewelry, and much more.
- Bang Pa In Palace - The Bang Pa In Palace was established in the 17th century and revitalized in the mid-19th century. It stands as a captivating symbol of royal indulgence and the architectural fusion of Thai, Chinese, and Gothic styles. The palace complex is adorned with meticulously maintained gardens, striking pavilions, and a serene lake.
