This unspoilt ravine, blanketed in lush, primeval greenery, starts in the Scala mountains and extends six kilometers down to the region of Amalfi. Its remote and inaccessible nature has kept its pristine condition intact. The life-giving stream, Rio Canneto, winds its way through the entire valley, nurturing a delicate ecosystem with its crystal-clear waters. The chaotic collision of towering rock ridges shields the valley from harsh northern winds, while its southern stretch is exposed to sea breezes, warm and moisture-laden. This distinct weather pattern results in an unusual contradiction of vegetation. Valley floor plants, or Mesofila, flourish in the cool, damp conditions at the base, while Mediterranean shrubs, which are predisposed to arid, torrid climates, populate the higher crests.
