Setting Sail on the Galatea

As someone who has spent countless hours riding the waves and exploring the hidden gems of the Caribbean, I thought I had seen it all. But the allure of the Aegean Sea and the promise of a unique sailing adventure on the Galatea Turkish Schooner in Paros was too tempting to resist. The morning sun was just beginning to warm the port of Piso Livadi as I boarded the elegant 19-meter schooner, greeted by the friendly crew led by the charismatic Davide. The Galatea, with its spacious decks and inviting atmosphere, promised a day of exploration and relaxation.

The schooner set sail at 10 am, gliding smoothly along the eastern coast of Paros. The gentle breeze and the rhythmic sound of the waves against the hull were a soothing reminder of why I love the ocean so much. As we sailed, Davide and his crew shared stories of the islands, their passion for the sea evident in every word. It was clear that this was more than just a job for them; it was a way of life.

Discovering Hidden Treasures

Our first stop was the stunning bay south of Antiparos, where the turquoise waters beckoned for a swim. Next, we ventured to the sea cave of Antiparos, a place that seemed straight out of a pirate’s tale. Climbing the rocky hills and jumping into the cool waters below was an exhilarating rush, reminiscent of the cliff dives I’ve enjoyed in the Caribbean. The camaraderie among the passengers and crew made the experience even more enjoyable, laughter echoing off the cave walls as we took turns leaping into the sea.

A Feast for the Senses

As the sun reached its zenith, we anchored at the wild island of Despotiko. Here, surrounded by the ruins of ancient civilizations, we were treated to a buffet lunch of Greek specialties. The flavors were as vibrant as the scenery, each bite a testament to the rich culinary heritage of the region. With a glass of local wine in hand, I took a moment to soak in the beauty around me, the gentle sway of the schooner a comforting embrace.

Our final stop was the enchanting Blue Lagoon near Panteronisi, a natural swimming pool with waters so blue they seemed almost unreal. Floating in the lagoon, I felt a deep sense of peace, the stresses of everyday life melting away with each gentle wave. As the day drew to a close, we sailed back to Piso Livadi, the setting sun casting a golden glow over the sea.

Reflecting on the day’s adventure, I realized that the Galatea had shown me a side of Paros that I never knew existed. The combination of breathtaking landscapes, thrilling activities, and the warm hospitality of Davide and his crew made for an unforgettable experience.
