Additional Information

While Pittsburgh is commonly known as the “City of Bridges,” it also tops the charts in the number of public city steps. With over 800 stairways throughout many of its 90 neighborhoods, these “paper streets” can be a fun place to explore. Join us on a stairway adventure through some authentic and “real” Pittsburgh neighborhoods. You’ll learn about the history of this special form of pedestrian travel and two neighborhoods that played essential roles in the city’s early economic development.

Come and explore the Steel City with us in a more unconventional and active way!

A Great Way to Explore PGH - My son and I had a great time on the steps tour with Laura! It was so interesting and filled with a perfect combination of learning, walking, stair climbing, and exploring. She is such a knowledgeable guide, and welcomed our questions on both historical and current events related to PGH. We highly recommend!

Off the beaten tourist path tour - I highly recommend this tour if you are interested in learning more about Pittsburgh's history and current neighborhoods. Laura was an engaging tour guide and was able to answer all our questions. I want to explore the steps of other neighborhood and hope there will be more steps tours to choose from.

Excellent tour with great insight - This was a first-rate tour with a good combination of topics incorporated into the narrative of the steps/layout of some of the city both past and present. Laura knows her stuff, but she is open to questions and does not keep the exchange one way. I greatly benefitted from hearing about the region, not just the neighborhoods, and what she has seen in neighborhoods throughout the city. There are some steps to go up and down, but it is not a constant workout. Because Laura knows the route so well, she can point out details and share stories that even a visitor doing the trek on his own wouldn't know. Great tour!

Step adventure with Laura - Laura was terrific! It was just my 2 BFFs and we all talked with Laura like we had known her forever. Her knowledge of the steps and life was excellent and she followed the tangents we went off on with her stories and history. I would definitely recommend Laura and request her for our next adventure.

A Great Tour With a Workout - This tour was quite unique and the tour guide Laura was very knowledgeable as well as personable. It gave a fascinating historical perspective "through the eyes" of some of the many sets of steps throughout the city.

Unique and interesting! - Great tour, highly recommend. Laura (our guide) gave us a great mix of history, details, and really tied the steps we did into past life in Pittsburgh, but also how the steps are starting to have "new" life for a new time and generation. I have known about the steps in our city for many years, but never walked them before. It is a workout, and I do exercise regularly, but I'm not a gym buff or athlete by far. If you are in general good health and physical stamina, it's worth the time/effort. My children are 16 and 17 yrs of age, they enjoyed it, nice views, good family time. It might not be best for young children. We will definitely try another Walk The Burgh Tour!

Worth every penny! - Our guide, Laura, was amazing! There were a couple sets of steps that were definitely rigorous, and I feel like I am in pretty good shape....but if you want a little challenge, this walking tour delivers! Highly recommend!
