Worry free day trip! - Great experience! My husband and I enjoyed the day checking many things off our bucket list! Nicolas was an amazing guide and we had plenty of heads turning as we drove by in this amazing vintage beetle! If your looking for Worry free trip to cenotes or local sites this is the way to go! Leave the hard part of driving to Nicolas, we felt very safe! 🏖 Thanks so much Nicolas!

Breathtaking!! - 1st..Nicolas (owner/driver) was AMAZING!!.. He made me & my wife feel extremely comfortable and more importantly safe!!.. He was giving us tips & recommendations on what to see/visit/experience. What I loved most is that he took us to a cenote that only me & my wife had to ourselves!! Definitely using his services when we come back next year!!

Bettle Tour in December - My fiance and I selected the guided tour with Nicolas for the day and we don't regret anything. This was by far the best idea ever, Nicolas was friendly, very resourceful, knowledgeable and extremely respectful. He was sharp and on time for pick-up and great driver. We went to the cenotes, a lovely beach, a extreme lovely restaurant where we drank our drinks in a tree house. We even went to la Quinta Avenida. We highly recommend this excursion for future travelers.

Great day - We had a lovely day! We had already been to Tulum so went straight to the restaurant on the guide. We ended up getting turned around and spent the morning at a golf resort by the beach. Then made it to the hidden gem of a restaurant. Swam and enjoyed our day of true vacation time. Nicholas is amazing and crazy helpful, if we needed anything we would send him a WhatsApp and he responded right away. I even left my water bottle in the car and he is bringing it back to me today. I would say if you have a day where you just want to take in the city and explore at your own pace and do what you want, this is perfection!

An absolute must! - We came across this as a quirky idea of something to do whilst we were on our honeymoon. We had SO much fun I would recommend it in a heart beat! We went exploring all day and for the money it was an excellent and exciting way to see more of the city. Although it was one main road for all of the main sites it is worth being aware that you get a basic paper map for directions so if you want something more substantial it may be worth looking up the route before you go (thank you other reviews!) If you want an alternative to a stuffy coach trip to Chichen Itza then this is it! Thank you!

Classic and stylish VW! - Nicolas dropped off our beetle promptly and 9 am and we were impressed to say the least. For being over 50 years old these cars are in great shape. We drove down to Akumal and the car was definitely turning heads. We were even complemented by our tour guide upon reaching our destination. We will definitely be renting again in the future upon our return to Playa.

cruising topless - What a great day. There is nothing quite like cruising with the top down on a warm sunny day. The old beetle had all the right quirks to be a classic VW. I will be doing this again next time we are down. Thumbs up from locals and tourists, easy way to meet people.

Great Time with a Cool Car - I can tell you how much fun we had exploring Playa del Carmen, Cenote Azul, and Akumal while driving a cool car that would turn heads from locals and tourists. Many were surprised when I told them the Beetle was a rental. Since it’s from the 70s, everything is manual. If you’re comfortable with that, you’ll have a blast!

Beetling Around in a Blast from the Past - I was a little late but Nicolas waited patiently and explained the operation of the ancient beetle in excellent English. He gave me the suggested itinerary in highly stylised map form and answered questions about it. It is entirely up to you whether to follow it or not but they were all places I wanted to go anyway so we went with it. I recommend you take a more accurate map or GPS if you are not familiar with Mexican roads. I am now an expert on 'retornos', a feature not found in the roads of my native land. We reached Cenote Azul easily enough. It was quite busy on a Saturday and we had a short wait before we were allowed in. There are several cenotes in this location so if the queue is too long you could easily try another one. Cenote Azul is a lovely spot and actually has two or three water holes hidden away down winding wooded paths. Cenotes are popular with local families and alcohol is not allowed. Fins are not allowed either but I wore my mask and snorkel for a swim in the clear and bracing water amongst a host of little fish. The non-swimmers in my party were content to sit in the shade and watch braver souls than me jumping off a small cliff into the water. Then it was off to the beach at Akumal for some lunch at La Buena Vida. This was a nice seafood restaurant right on the beach in a a very salubrious neighbourhood. Finding the turnoff was a bit tricky though, you have to go past it and do a U-turn at a retorno then turn right at the bridge over the highway. You then run a gauntlet of hawkers and parking sharks on a very bumpy road before passing through a large archway into a calmer residential area. We parked for free right across from the restaurant. Catch of the day and a cold beverage came to about 300 pesos. The plan says go back the towards the arch and continue to the turtle beach which I would have been happy to do but my party wanted to go shopping so we headed back to Playa. It was a lot of fun driving the old beetle, though it would certainly give the younger driver a new appreciation of the refinements of the modern automobile. It also turned a lot of heads, including the police at a checkpoint in Playa. They wanted to see my driving licence, which I had given to Nicolas in lieue of a deposit, and they wanted to give me a ticket for not wearing the retro-fitted seat belt. Fortunately I had a second licence on me and a Spanish-speaking passenger so we were able to negotiate a wallet-busting 'mordida' rather than suffer the somewhat inconvenient legal ramifications we were threatened with. So the lesson there is carry extra cash, ask Nicolas about the licence thing and always wear your seatbelt! The car is surprisingly small and has very little room for luggage but if you can deal with that, and avoid the police, you'll have a great day out.
