Sofia- Bachkovo monastery-Plovdiv

Plovdiv Old Town - Welcome to Sofia. Transfer to Bachkovo Monastery – 2 hours and 30 minutes. Bachkovo Monastery is the second largest monastery in Bulgaria, established by the Georgian Bakuryani family in the 11th century. Enjoy a 45-minute guided tour, followed by free time to explore the market street in front of the monastery.

Transfer to Plovdiv, the second largest city in Bulgaria – 40 minutes. Plovdiv is rich in history and archaeological remains, which is why it was named the European Capital of Culture for 2019.

Plovdiv-Dobarsko-Bansko

Pirin National Park - 10:00 AM. Hotel check-out. Drive to Bansko through the West Rhodope Mountains – 2 hours and 40 minutes. Bansko is the largest ski resort in the Balkan Peninsula, situated in a valley below the Pirin Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visit the church in Dobarsko, built in the 17th century. Bansko-Melnik-Rila monastery-Sofia

The Melnik Pyramids - 9:00 AM. Hotel check-out. Transfer to Melnik, the smallest town in Bulgaria, with fewer than 186 inhabitants. Melnik is known for its red wine, particularly a unique variety called β€œWide Melnik Leaf.” South of Melnik is the fortress of Alexius Slav, a nobleman from the Asen dynasty who ruled the Rhodope region independently for over 20 years during a period of internal and external crisis in the Bulgarian kingdom.

Rila Monastery - Afternoon transfer to Rila Monastery – 2 hours. This is the largest monastery in Bulgaria and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Rila is the highest mountain in the Balkan Peninsula, and the monastery is located in its heart. It attracts many tourists and pilgrims because it was a source of strength and faith during difficult times for the Bulgarian nation. Enjoy a 1-hour walking tour and free time to soak in the atmosphere and nature.

Transfer to Sofia – 2 hours. Accommodation in the center of Sofia. Free time.
