Plovdiv is said to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe. The city has cultural and economic significance both in the past and in the present due to its strategic location. Pieces of evidence of its millennial history can be found all over the place
- from the Roman Theatre to the Ottoman mosques. This is the reason why Plovdiv is one of the most charming sights in Bulgaria- wherever you look you will find history, a legend from a different period, traces of glorious past and at the same time, it’s a pleasure to see how vivid is it still and how it continues to develop and writes its new history. There we will visit the highlights
- the Roman Theatre, the Roman Stadium, and have a walk in the Old Town with typical for the Revival Period house museums and narrow cobblestone streets. Afterward, we will have lunch.
- Assenova krepost (Asen’s Fortress) - When we are done with our traditional Bulgarian lunch, we will head towards the final destination of the tour
- Asenova Fortress (approx. 25 min drive from Plovdiv). Asen’s Fortress is situated on the top of a cliff in Rodopi Mountain, at approx. 20 km distance from Plovdiv. It is a Medieval fortress with a rich history and breathtaking view.
- Bachkovo Monastery - After feasting our eyes on the beauties of nature, we will drive to the Bachkovo monastery. This is the second biggest monastery in Bulgaria and one of the oldest. It was established in the late XI century by a man for Georgia. The monastery later became part of the Bulgarian church. It suffered a lot from the turbulence of the time and keeps a lot of history and drama.

Well beyond expectations - This is one of the best day tours we have ever done. Excellent value for money. Daniel is an outstanding guide. Picked us up at our AirBnb address no problem. Ride was comfortable. Daniel was extremely knowledgeable on the history of Sofia which is no tall order as the history is complicated and highly nuanced. We visited plenty of historical ruins and places of worship - with plenty of time for a relaxing lunch and walk through the main shopping and restaurant mall. If we could give more than 5 stars we would! Highly recommend this trip!! You won’t be disappointed!!

Fantastic guide & tour - The guide was fantastic, so knowledgeable about all the sights. Our tour had 4 plus the guide, so a great group size. We went to the fortress first, then the monastery so it would be quieter. That also gave us the maximum amount of free time in Plovdiv. The monastery is the 2nd largest and is very beautiful. The fortress has amazing views. Plovdiv was great and the guide covered all the key areas before we spent some free time. A great day trip to explore these sights

Great day out in Plovdiv - The guide arrived promptly at 8:30, we travelled in a small, but comfortable mini van as there was only one other person on the tour. The drive took a little over two hours with a short stop on the way to get snacks, stretch our legs.
We went on a great walking tour around Plovdiv, with stops the see the stadium, theatre and one of the houses in the old town.
We then had time to have lunch and wander on our own before heading to the fortress and monastery. Both were fascinating in different ways.
The guide was friendly and professional and very knowledgeable.

Long Day very much worthwhile and great value. - Excellent trip. Very long day and quite varied. Hotel pickup went well but Sofia traffic is heavy and slow start after other pickups to make 7. Nice driver guide. Comfort beak in Plovdiv area and plenty time after guided tour. 2nd city well worth a visit. Onto the Fort which to this old pensioner was too much climbing over slippery rocks. Others all made it but scenic view was worthwhile with Ice cream van there. Onto Bulgarias 2 nd biggest Monastery also worthwhile visit and back in the van for another traffic effected return . Almost 11 hours back to hotel. Very good value and should not be missed.

Long day but worth every minute - The Monastery was beautiful and very serene. It was fascinating that the ruins in Plodiv had been buried under the city and the amphitheater is still being used. Asen's Fortress views are amazing!

Language Mastery at your service - What an unexpected surprise! Our guide, Laura, has extensive expertise in languages, old аnd older. This turned out to be a key differentiator in the depth of our tour experience. Laura was extremely well prepared and versed in dates, places, and historical elements, very accommodating, and energetic. We enjoyed the vibrancy and exuberance she conveyed throughout the tour. Very interesting day with beautiful views - We were picked up from our Airbnb on time by our guide, Domi, who was fantastic. He told us all about the countries’ history, pointed out sights as we went past, knew all about the places we visited and even stopped for us to get coffee. Was an amazing day

Nice, but vehicle was hot. - It was a nice day and the driver/tour guide was willing to adapt to what we wanted to do and deviate a bit from the plan, so that was nice. The vehicle was pretty hot, especially for the back row and there were no vents in the back to help it cool off quicker. You had to wait for the front vents to cool off the whole vehicle.
