Setting Sail on the Tortuguero Canals

As a seasoned surfer, I’ve spent countless hours riding the waves and exploring the coastal wonders of Central America. But every now and then, I crave a different kind of adventure—one that takes me away from the surf and into the heart of nature. That’s how I found myself in Pococí, ready to embark on a canoe tour through the enchanting Tortuguero canals.

The day began with a gentle breeze and the promise of discovery. Our guide, Rafa, was a local expert with an eye for spotting the hidden gems of the jungle. As we paddled through the serene waters, Rafa pointed out the vibrant wildlife that called this place home. Iguanas basked in the sun, while colorful birds like Toucans and Aningas flitted through the trees. The highlight, however, was the moment we found ourselves face-to-face with a caiman, its eyes peering curiously at us from the water’s edge.
