The Nevidio Canyon, situated in Dobri Do at the base of Durmitor in Montenegro’s core, is 55 km away from Nikšić. With a span of 3.5 km and a height range of 350 - 400 m, and a depth varying between 0.5 - 25m, it’s an impressive sight. The canyon starts 935 m above sea level and ends at 810 m. It narrows down to as little as one meter in some spots, requiring alpine gear to progress. The vertical cliffs block sunlight from reaching the base, keeping most of it perpetually shadowed. Its name, Nevidio, alludes to its mystery, for some regions are hidden from the sky’s view. Its reputation as the last tamed canyon was earned in 1965 - before then, it was ‘Unseen’. It’s rated among Europe’s most challenging canyons to traverse. Today, it stands as a remarkable sight, and its stark, breathtaking appeal is a compelling reason to explore this extraordinary Montenegrin gem.
