About the Park:
Wasgamuwa National Park receives between 1650 and 2100 millimeters of rainfall annually and has an average temperature of 28°C. Historically, Wasgamuwa was a primary habitat for the Sri Lankan Sloth Bear, earning its name from the Sinhala term for ‘Sloth Bear Woods.’ The park is home to over 150 species of flowers found in its forests, grasslands, and reservoirs. In terms of wildlife, the park hosts 23 species of mammals, 143 species of birds (including 8 endemic species), over 50 species of butterflies, 17 species of reptiles, and 8 species of amphibians.
