• Pompeii Archaeological Park - Pompeii, known in Italian as Pompei, is a well-preserved ancient Roman city located in Campania, Italy, 14 miles (23 km) southeast of Naples, at the southeastern base of Mount Vesuvius. Around noon on August 24, 79 CE, Mount Vesuvius erupted massively, covering Pompeii with volcanic debris. The following day, clouds of scorching gases engulfed the city. Buildings were destroyed, the population was either crushed or suffocated, and the city was buried under ash and pumice. Note that the Pompeii ticket is not included and costs an additional €19 per person. Admission is free for those under 18. We recommend hiring a guide in Pompeii.
