Highlights
  • Pompeii Archaeological Park - Meet the guide at the main entrance of the archaeological site known as “Porta Marina Superiore.” The guide will be holding a sign with our company’s name “Askos Tours” on it.
  • Basilica - The Basilica was an open portico that provided shelter for merchants and other activities.
  • Forum - Explore the ancient main square of Pompeii.
  • Via dell’Abbondanza - Stroll through the main street of Pompeii.
  • House of Menander - The House of Menander is one of the most opulent and magnificent houses in ancient Pompeii, known for its architecture, decoration, and contents.
  • Granaries of the Forum - In the granary, you will see marble tables and baths for fountains that adorned the entrances of houses, as well as some casts of victims of the eruption, including a dog and a tree.
  • Stabian Baths (Terme Stabiane) - These baths occupy a vast area between the Brothel lane, the Holconius crossroads, and the Via Stabiana. They are the oldest thermal complex in the city.
  • Lupanar - Visit the most famous brothel in the ruined Roman city of Pompeii.
  • House of the Faun - The House of the Faun was one of the largest and most impressive private residences in Pompeii.
  • Odeon - Teatro Piccolo - View the so-called Teatro Piccolo of Pompeii.
  • Teatro Grande - Visit the most important theater in Pompeii.
  • Archaeological Park of Herculaneum - Transfer by train to Herculaneum (30-minute trip + 10-minute walk) and take a quick lunch break if needed.

The meeting place is the Ticket Office of the Herculaneum ruins.

You can get there as follows:

  • By car via Pignalver (There is an unguarded parking lot very close to the meeting place)

  • By train via Corso Resina 1 (Circumvesuviana train station is a 10-minute walk away)

  • House of the Deer - The house is named after marble statues of stags/deer found in the peristyle.

  • La Terrazza di M. Nonio Balbo - M. Nonius Balbus was the city’s major benefactor, restoring and building many public buildings. Upon his death, he was made patron and honored with many accolades, detailed in the long inscription on his funeral altar.

  • College of the Augustales - It is believed that this building was a center for the cult of Emperor Augustus and the headquarters of the Collegium Augustalium (or possibly even the local curia).

  • Casa del Rilievo di Telefo - This house possibly belonged to one of the town’s leading benefactors, Marcus Nonius Balbus, and is somewhat unusual in that it has its own private access to the adjoining Suburban Thermae to the south.

  • Partem Domus lignea - Casa del Tramezzo di Legno - This house is significant for the elegant wooden partition that remains.

  • House of the Skeleton - The House of the Skeleton, likely the aggregation of three smaller buildings, gets its name from the discovery of human remains in a second-floor room in 1831.

  • Central Thermae - The Central Thermae were built around the beginning of the 1st century AD and were divided, as was common practice, into men’s and women’s baths, each with their own separate entrances.

  • House of the Black Salon - The House of the Black Hall is one of Herculaneum’s more luxurious mansions. The house has a monumental entrance that still retains the carbonized remains of the doorposts and lintel.

  • Casa Sannitica - This house has an arrangement typical of the Samnites (an ancient people of the Sabine race who occupied this mountainous part of central Italy). The splendid atrium is bordered by a gallery with Ionic columns. The rooms are decorated with frescoes.

  • Casa del Bel Cortile - This is one of the most unique houses in Herculaneum. It features a courtyard with a stairway and a stone balcony instead of an atrium.

  • House of the Grand Portal - A beautiful domus in the center of the archaeological area, with various rooms, colonnades, frescoes, and, as is common throughout Herculaneum, charred remains of wooden parts.

Pompeii & Herculaneum done right - The tour was comprehensive and stimulating. I feel as though Herculaneum isn’t well known enough for what we saw. The frescos were exceptional and the tour was amazing. Was caught off guard by the skeletons; apparently they were just made available to the public for the first time. Sergio was the best tour guide I’ve had in Italy. He was truly enthusiastic about the subject, and it showed. 10/10 experience. Would most certainly do another tour with him.

Top rate guide and tour - Julia, our guide, was top rate - knowledgeable, fun, personable. She was a gracious host to this marvelous site. She truly enriched our understanding, and appreciation of Pompeii. The little hearing devises worked quite well too. FYI - there are water fountains throughout to refill your water bottles, wear sunscreen cause very little shade.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND this tour - IVAN was a wealth of information that brought these cities to life! - Askos Tours was AMAZING, and IVAN, our archeologist, is the real deal! We could not have asked for a better tour of both incredible sites. There were seven of us on the tour, and we give it 14 thumbs up! Askos was great about communicating with us all along the way and even accommodated us in switching the two sites around according to the direction we were driving. Ivan took us off the beaten path of the crowds and gave us insight into the engineering and culture of these cities. He's engaging and a wealth of knowledge!

Pompeii and Herculaneum: utterly fabulous. - This was a memorable day, much anticipated and lived up to all expectations. A huge success factor was our guide, Diego, from Askos tours. His knowledge of and passion for the sites was combined with spot on accuracy (my husband is a classicist and vouches for that) and a real desire to share his insights. Our interest never flagged because of Diego's input and we all left feeling moved, uplifted and very grateful that we had had such a splendid opportunity. I would highly recommend Askos tours and particularly Diego.

Fantastic experience - Sylvia was a fabulous guide and our family group of seven had a truly memorable experience touring both sites. We all got so more out of our visit with Sylvia as our guide. She was very knowledgeable, personable and engaging with all ages of our group. Her expertise as an archeologist working both sites led a depth to the tour that we are grateful to have experienced. Aksos Tours and Sylvia were also very helpful and gracious in assisting us when we messed up our train directions. 😜 Highly recommend.

A day at Pompeii and Herculaneum - We enjoyed a tour today of both ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum with our guide Sergio Pisco. The history combined with the sense of being in and out of another time was amazing. Sergio has deep knowledge and an obvious love of these special places. He shared so much with us and answered questions as they came. He really made the day. It takes a lot of talent to keep a group moving happily through monuments so large and complex. The cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum are moving - so many perished and at the same time marvellous. Well worth the time and attention.
