Traversing even more terrain than other traditional guided tours, your guide, who’s also an archaeologist, will lead you through the historic city devastated by Mount Vesuvius’ eruption nearly 2 millennia ago. Explore the UNESCO World Heritage site to witness the incredible remnants of old shops, temples, and residences, including the stunning House of the Vettii. The tour concludes with a stroll atop the city fortifications, offering an expansive view of Naples and Capri. This small-group tour is kept to a maximum of 15 participants for a more intimate travel experience.

Very Informative - Having done tours around Pompeii previously this was by far the best tour I have done. The guide, Vito, was very informative and interesting. We got to go to different places from other tours. The highlight was definitely seeing the newly excavated buildings. Can highly recommend this tour.

Totally worth it. Archaeolog buffs should budget extra time after the tour! - Our train from Sorrento was delayed but we made it to the tour just in time. Catarina was an excellent guide, professional and very clear. Pompeii is MASSIVE, it was really helpful to have a guide. We stayed on after the tour and continued to explore the other parts of Pompeii not covered by the tour. Archaeology buffs - budget extra time after the tour!

Pompeii is a must see! - We were in a small group as promised. Francesca was our guide. She was knowledgeable and easy to understand. She encouraged questions and did not make us feel rushed.

Great tour guide - Ilaria was our lovely, lively tour guide. She is an archeologist and has worked on Pompeii digs in the past. She is full of wonderful stories and explanations for Pompeii. Anyone would be very fortunate to have her as a guide. I loved her cat umbrella!

Nice tour of Pompeii excavations! - Really great tour of the excavated city! Even with rain we enjoyed the sites and guide was expert in pointing out history and use of each houses and cooking areas and temples! Recommend taking this tour! Great walk - good exercise. Bring water. Thanks!

best of both worlds--great guide and time to explore on your own. - So first off, this tour really does have an archeologist guide. Our guide, Brunella, works at the Pompeii site doing archeological work in the low season, and those folks do tours during the high season. So she had tons of first hand knowledge not just about the various ruins, but about the process by which some of them had been uncovered, and the changes in how ruins are preserved over time. A+ for knowledge and insight. As a tour guide, Brunella was also fantastic. She kept our group together througout, made sure everyone had time to view specific locations where you had to pass through individually, offered to take photos at a key location, and also explained options clearly at the end of the tour--you can stay inside the ruins and keep looking for as long as you want, or return to the original entrance with Brunella and head home. This is great because it lets you choose your own adventure! During the tour, we got a great overview of some key places within the ruins--some excellent mosaics, wall paintings, and well preserved locations, as well as helpful interpretive information. I appreciated that Brunella explained not just what we know about the site (# of "fast food" locations, water fountains, etc) but also "how" we know that (look for the sliding door grooves to identify commercial storefronts!). The combination of knowledge and guiding skills made this a great experience and well worth the premium over just buying tickets on our own. Because you can stay and look more, you get the best of both worlds with the tour, and the price is very affordable.

Pompeii with a wonderful, experienced guide - A fascinating and fantastic experience. Our guide had studied archeology in school, so she was extremely knowledgeable. Her passion for history and respect for the efforts to uncover and preserve this sacred site were obvious with every story she shared.
