In 62 A.D., a powerful earthquake hit the Vesuvius region. Seventeen years later, on August 24, 79 A.D., Mount Vesuvius erupted unexpectedly, covering Pompeii in ash and pumice. The city remained hidden until its rediscovery in the 16th century, but it wasn’t until 1748 that systematic exploration started under King Charles III of Bourbon of Naples. Our guide will revive the history of this ancient resort town.
