Subject Matter Expert Pompeii Tour Guide! - We had a super great day with Eliana at Pompeii. She was professional, extremely well informed and highly educated. She is truly a subject matter expert and could deliver a lecture on any question we came up with! Eliana gave us a great overview of life in pompeii, putting everything in the context of the culture of Pompeii and Rome at the time. Such an amazing place and a great tour made all the difference in our day and understanding of what we were seeing. She paced the 4 hours very well and was super attentive to my husband who has some gait issues. I was so impressed by how kind and empathic she was, carefully guiding him and shooing anyone in his path away to make sure he was safe and secure. She really went above and beyond. I highly recommend Eliana's tours and she was easy to connect and communicate with prior to our designated day. Thank you Eliana!!

Fantastic tour with Luciana - Luciana was our amazing guide and we absolutely adored her!!! She was patiently waiting for us at the meeting point and it was raining really hard. While we waited for the rain to let up, she explained the history of Pompeii to us via the gift shop through images on postcards, learned about Cameos and how they are made, and general cultural information pertaining to Pompeii. We grabbed a coffee and pastries too while we waited. When the rain let up, she got us right into the site and we headed via a back way in. She showed us amazing things that I didn’t see on a previous visit. She was careful where she took us due to my elderly parents but we never felt like we missed anything. On the contrary, she got us into areas that would have been hard to see without her expertise and status. A lovely and very knowledgeable person!

Nice, Eze, Monaco, Monte Carlo - Parfait was an excellent driver and very knowledgeable. We would have liked a bit more room for the 8 passengers. We enjoyed the tours.

Private group tour guide meant we got the best out of our trip - It was well worth paying for a private guided tour of a corner of Pompei. Luciana was very knowledgeable as a working archaeologist at the site. She was able to give us real insights into how the residents lived and the research, such as the use of plaster casts to preserve the shapes of long-gone wooden items and people under the solidified ash, and how our understanding of how many people lived in the town and when the eruption happened have changed over time. We only spent two hours but it was hot and there's lots of walking so that was plenty for us. We could have stayed longer and explored more if we'd wanted to do so. There's only time to visit a small area of the site, and Luciana knew the best houses to show us with well-preserved wall paintings while dodging the cruise ship crowds. We would have got a lot less out of our Pompei trip without our guide.

The precious gem in Pompeii Scavi - Pompeii Scavi is a phenomenal place! Really awesome and each ‘house’, street turn indescribable! Was it the Pompeii or the Tour Guide? - definitely BOTH! Eliana Sandretti’s professorial level of educating us on the history, the different places/aspects of Pompeii, incorporating the culture then, is not an easy feat, but Eliana was exceptional! She had our ears, eyes, all our senses awake in awe of her knowledge and funny jokes (didn’t know smart people make good jokes too😆). She’s truly a gem in Pompeii Scavi. We are so glad we didn’t have to share her with a big group, so I would advise a private tour with her. Only regret we had was booking only 3 hours for Pompeii cuz we wanted to see Amalfi too; with Eliana, you’ll have fun learning, and time zooms fast when having fun. Thank you very much Eliana! It was great to meet you. We’ll definitely have you again next time we visit longer. Take care. Virey-Limcangco Family, Oct. 1, 2024

Lovely, but not well executed. - In general, we had a nice tour. There were some concerns about the pace and that our tour guide, although lovely, could not engage our group fully. She spoke a bit too quietly for us to easily hear her knowledge about the site. She did not provide enough guidance about where we were heading and our next route stop. Without this, our group separated at times, and she became frustrated. Had she provided us with information about where we needed to move to next so she could share more information, we would have been able to stay together much better. Finally, she did not keep track of our time. So, two hours passed, and we did not see everything we were supposed to see. She extended the tour to do more for us, but knowing we were keeping her made it uncomfortable and added to the feeling of being disorganized. Overall, being in Pompeii was amazing, but the tour could have been better conducted.

Make sure your guide speaks your language - We’ve visited as a family before and this is a fascinating piece of history. A couple of comments: 1. The old days of picking up a tour guide of your choosing at the front entrances are gone. No more tour guides so book online. 2. You need 3 hours. 3. We were staying in Rome City Center and it’s a simple 1 hour 15 minute train to Napoli Termini then a transit train for 20-30 minutes. Easy trip. 4. If it’s your first time, watch a recent doc on it beforehand or do a bit of reading first—-there is much to see and you cannot do it in 3 hours so have a bit of a feeling of what you’d like to see. 5. Ok, it’s all about the tour guide. This guide Antonio had us enter and then in very difficult to understand and a bit of broken English parked us under a portico where we stood for 15 minutes listening to him show us everything that’s not real—-like wood beams that burned during the volcano and are now reconstructed. It was very boring. I asked him politely to move on and he asked me if I was an archeologist and wanted to give the tour. No, I’m not, but I wanted to hear all about the history and see how the people lived and what occurred during the 3 days of lava and ash. He was too scientific and just boring. We did book this through Trip Advisor and unless you want to get into the weeds on beams, get a regular tour guide. What was fascinating? The new excavation they are doing. Wow. You just can’t imagine what it’s like to unbury a single Villa and watch them work at it. A must see—-but do the private tour with a non-archeologist. Though last time we visited we did have a female archeologist and she was fascinating—-so perhaps the guide just wasn’t our cup if tea.
