Carmine was EXCELLENT - This was a birthday trip for my 87 year old mother in law. We were a group of four: my husband and I ( 60 somethings) Mums friend (80 something) and Mum. Carmine was fabulous..he was so knowledgeable, and tailored the tour to suit Mum’s tastes and mobility. He made Pompeii really interesting..we got so much more from the tour than we would have doing our own thing, or as part of a group tour. He engaged us with questions designed to make us ponder the reasons behind some of the structures, which is so much better than just listening to a spiel. We thoroughly recommend him without hesitation.
We were very glad that we came in winter…no crowds at all and it was cool, but not too chilly. We did get a few spots of rain, but not enough to slow us down or put us off..we all had raincoats.
There are lots of friendly cats there too..all quite fat but healthy..apparently they are fed by the guides.
We had originally planned to take the Circumvesuvia train from Naples to Pompei, but our taxi driver offered to take the four of us right to Pompeii for 60 euro plus tip, which we thought fair, and saved us the hassle of the railway station. After lunch at the railway station restaurant ( excellent pasta dishes, recommended by Carmine) we did the train back to Naples. It was standing room only, but we managed a seat for Mum..I was disappointed that no one surrendered their seat for Mums friend who is in her eighties..I was happy standing, but would have been happier if she was able to sit…never mind.
All in all a fabulous day out, thanks to a resourceful taxi driver, and the most excellent guide, Carmine.

Beautiful visit with a super guide - 3-hour tour with guide at our disposal. The tour was very interesting and exciting. Our guide Alona told us about Pompeii with great enthusiasm and managing to get completely involved. Three hours flew by. Bravissima!! It was really worth it, we had already seen Pompeii years ago without a guide, but this time we made a blast from the past.

A great choice for a personal tour of Pompeii! - My parents took my family and both my sister's families to Sorrento for a week. Visiting Pompeii was a 'bucket list' item for me and we treated all 14 of us to a private tour with Carmine. He did an amazing job and brought the city to life. And he did so while avoiding the crowds until the very end which really increased our enjoyment of the day. The tour was the highlight of our trip and we can not recommend this enough!
Some details. This purchase is for the tour guide service only (which is clearly stated). I pre-purchased our entrance tickets online (although you can do so there as well). Note that the official site only lets you purchase 10 tickets to limit the resellers (which I appreciated) so I had my sister purchase the additional 4 we needed. You'll need each person's name and birth date when purchasing the tickets and you'll need to bring your passport/ID.
Once we were there, we opted to pay 2 euros (cash only) to get headsets for each of us so that it was easy to hear Carmine during our tour.
I had no problem finding the meeting place and it was easy to find Carmine.
We ranged in age from 11 to 81 and all had a great time. The site is uneven and my Mom used her walking stick which was helpful. The pace was nice and Carmine did a great job of keeping track of everyone in our group.
I give this my highest recommendation! You won't be disappointed.

DON’T HESITATE! Book this tour! - Stop scrolling and book this tour! Daniela was wonderful and it was a joy to walk a small part of the ancient city (frozen in time!) with her. She made sure to take us to see what we mentioned we wanted to see but also gave us so much knowledge about Pompeii and life there. It is truly fascinating to see how these Romans lived. Also sobering to see the plaster casts of how people were when they died. I’m so glad we picked this tour out of many available. It was perfect for us! I can’t wait to go back and see more of Pompeii through Daniela’s eyes. SO WORTH IT!!!

Daniela was fantastic - Daniela was fantastic. She has a great sense of humor and knew her stuff. They also got us to and from the Naples train station which saved us lots of time. My family of 6 loved it

We love Carmine! - Carmine was an amazing guide for our 2 hours in Pompeii! He was such a great guide you’d see people wandering solo listening into what he was telling us. He made the tour super family friendly as we were traveling with a 4 year old and 1 year old.

An Amazing Tour by An Amazing Guide - Spent a most amazing 3h with Giusi. She was attentive, knowledgeable and so very friendly. She took pains to find out what we wanted to see and carefully planned the tour accordingly. As Pompeii is huge and even 3h was not enough, we intended to visit other parts on our own. She gave us proper directions and advice of the other places we didn’t have time to cover with her.

Great Tour - Well Worth It - We spent 4 hours with Carmine yesterday exploring Pompeii. This was our 5th private tour during a 2 week stay in southern Italy. All were good but Carmine was exceptional as our tour guide and made Pompeii and the relevant Roman period come alive. Pompeii is very large and it takes a master tour guide to condense all there is to see into 4 short hours. Carmine did a masterful job. I would recommend that anyone going to see this amazing site take a private tour and ask for Carmine as your time and $ will be well spent.

Excellent tour with Josie - highly recommend - We had a fantastic experience with Josie. Being first-time visitors to Italy, and also having the misfortune to tour Pompeii on a 100+ degree day, we desperately needed someone to not only guide us through the ruins, but keep us on pace amid the beating sun. Josie was all that, and more. She was extremely knowledgeable, and better yet, kept us all highly entertained as we learned the story behind each ruin. We can't wait for our next tour with Josie!
