Highlights
  • 1169A Ponatahi Road - Expect an evening of space and astronomy just for you. When stars are visible, we stargaze. When they are not, we entertain you with an e-astronomy experience.

  • Stargazing: We meet you on arrival. Then, grab a blanket or jacket through our reception area. The telescope viewing area is 25 meters away, tucked inside our Moon Garden. We spend the next 60–90 minutes viewing the fantastic deep-sky objects of the Southern Sky with our powerful telescopes.

Our private stargazing experience, is exclusive, so you don’t have to share it with anyone outside of your group.

If the weather is unsuitable for stargazing, we will deliver an e-astronomy experience. We will take you on a tour of the universe with our state-of-the-art planetarium software and a big screen. You also get to see our unique collection of astrobiology rocks from across New Zealand - we use these to talk about astrobiology and our contribution to it, and the search for life on Mars. Also part of our e-astronomy experience is exploring the Solar System with our virtual reality experience.

A complimentary hot beverage is included. The whole experience is 90 minutes, though we often go a bit longer if time allows.

Incredible experience - Very fun. The people who run it are incredible. The opportunity to view some amazing stars that look just like a spot with your eyes but with the telescope, you can see the rings of Saturn and Jupitur so close up which is just a magical experience. (Bring some warm clothes) (You might get hot chocolate after)

Lovely stars and lovely people - Fantastic night out in a field. Really glad that getting this place certified as a dark-sky reserve has worked out, because it was definitely worth venturing out here as a couple of newbie stargazers. The people running it (sorry, forgot your names), are enthusiastic and dedicated, ready to answer all your burning questions - while offering you hot chocolate. We had a very nice clear night and used the telescopes, which was just amazing! Thanks for also teaching me how to use my own camera for night-time photography.
